Thanks lorando!
Loved seeing the Woodcock Lake Dam area. Looked up the views. Excellent!
Used to hike 10-15 miles, 6 days a week. Plus the 4,000 or more ft gain in elevation.
Hear ya on the cement legs Did 4¼ miles again w/650' elevation. Will repeat today. Rain on the way for a week.
You're quite the strider! Reminds me of AT thru hikers. It's roughly 2,190 miles or five million steps from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine. Carry your food and your world in your backpack. Let oneself go and be one w/nature. Can see that you are!

8.38 miles 18,065 steps 151 minutes 75F / 65% RH. Rain's 'a comin'!
MidnightSun - We're on the same page. The only things that might improve my walks would be having the White Mountains for a backdrop, and a buddy like Reo to share the experience!
When I lived in NJ, I had a summer job at High Point State Park, and actually got paid to hike the AT in the park and talk to hikers on their journey north. They're special people!! Now my ankle (hurt it in Dec.) wouldn't take kindly to the rock to rock trails and the elevation gains. Speaking of elevation gains, your 650 foot climb must get your heart pumping.
Rain in the forecast here for the next week also, so one day at a time.

Have section hiked the AT in Shenandoah Valley and in New England. Met scores of thru hikers most years. Love to trade trail talk and offer them "trail magic" — Snickers, Reese's, and even ice cream. Have been on w/e gathering where we grill burgers, chicken quarters and the like for them. There are some trail towns here in the mtns that have lots of kindness to them. Sleep in barns, on screened porches, and the like w/meals for free. Love to meet thru hikers on the trail in the The White and chat. The Appalachian Mtn Club offers work for stay at each of their 8 huts. Hiking is one of the most enjoyable all day activities ever. You know the story... A bad day of hiking is better than a good day at work.
Rain and injuries caused a zero day. Slipped on the soaking wet lawn yesterday, fell on my back, elbow, and got a one inch cut on the back of my head. Last w/e slipped and landed sitting on my tailbone. Ouch! Painful week for me.
