Twenty-four NWSL players named to U.S. women’s national team training camp for international friendlies.
The United States will take on Sweden and Costa Rica in final two matches of the year.
Newly appointed U.S. women’s national team head coach Vlatko Andonovski has announced his first roster of 24 players for a training camp prior to the USWNT’s final two matches of the year. The U.S. will play Sweden on Nov. 7 at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, Ohio (7:30 p.m. ET on FS1 & TUDN) and face Costa Rica on Nov. 10 at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Fla. (8 p.m. ET on ESPN2 & TUDN). Tickets for both games are on sale through ussoccer.com.
All 24 call-ups are members of NWSL teams, including seventeen players from the 2019 Women’s World Cup team and three first-time call-ups (Aubrey Bledsoe, Alana Cook, Imani Dorsey).
Defender Casey Short and midfielder Andi Sullivan return to the roster after being called up to close out the Victory Tour in early October. Lynn Williams along with Margaret “Midge” Purce also return to the roster. Williams is coming off North Carolina Courage’s Championship win over the Chicago Red Stars this past week. The forward aims to return to the USA game roster for the first time since the 2018 SheBelieves Cup.
First time call-up Aubrey Bledsoe is coming off a great season with the Washington Spirit. The goalkeeper ranked first in the league with 86 saves and second with nine shutouts, breaking her previous record of four shutouts in 2018.
Five players from the 2019 World Cup team will not be available due to injuries; defenders Kelley O’Hara, Ali Krieger, Crystal Dunn, and Tierna Davidson, and forward Megan Rapinoe. Forward Alex Morgan recently announced she was pregnant with her first child. All players, excluding Davidson and Morgan, will attend the first few days of training camp then depart to continue their rehabilitations.
Andonovski will use the training camp to name 18 players to suit up for each match.
