Got bad news for Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center. I have congestive heart failure. Permanent deferral unless they can reverse it.

Got my 20th platelets donation of the year done Saturday, another triple. Almost couldn't get started as the tech hit scar tissue & clogged up the needle. Had to take 2 more techs to adjust it to get the blood flow into the system. Got a NYBC Thanksgiving t-shirt too.

I donated blood last week, the donor center called me to let me know I was eligible to donate again and I scheduled an appointment for the same day.

I received a letter from NYBC (not an email, a snail-mail letter) telling me that in reviewing my donation record and FDA guidelines for a 12-month donation period they are deferring me until January 4! I have a message to them to call me back to discuss this. Over the past 12 months I only have 16 platelets donations, max FDA guideline is 24. Plus I have 8 hours community service to NYBC banked with my employer's charitable foundation and with another donation I can get another grant paid to NYBC. Hours do not roll over between calendar years, so that time would be lost if I can't donate in December.

Just got off the phone with NYBC. Too much plasma loss, and the plasma is what the platelets float in. They suggest coming in next around January 18th because if I come in too close to eligibility date of January 4 I could get deferred again. So they lose out on a hundred bucks because I'm 2 hours short in charitable service to get another grant.

Had my fix-up appointment on the 8th. Cardiac catheterization wasn't half bad. I even got a good night's sleep beforehand, when I had my Urolift procedure I ended up staying up all night. But they didn't find any significantly blocked arteries so I get to put up with congestive heart failure. Don't know if they will be doing anything about my peripheral vascular disease. They are doing wound care on my ulcerated right calf.

I'm currently on antibiotics. As of a week ago, I had an open skin wound on my big toe ("crater" on the bottom) and an elevated white blood cell count. Had a LVN (the Texas term for what is called in most states an LPN) come out to bandage my foot. I go back to the podiatrist tomorrow morning.

Went to blood bank today to pick up their 2021 calendar, but they were out. Told one of the phlebotomists that I have congestive heart failure and they won't be seeing me around for a donation.

I made my first triple platelet donation of the year to NYBC. I also cashed in a bucketful of Donor Advantage points to get a new living room TV for us. Our old Vizio 40" will go in the basement exercise area to replace the 32 inch there, and the living room will get a new 50" Vizio Smart TV. The built-in Chromecast will be nice so I can have something on my Android phone or Android tablet show up on a much bigger screen. VIZIO V-SeriesĀ® 50" Class (49.5" Diag.) 4K HDR Smart TV | V505-H19MSRP: $299.99 Actual Cost: 9573 Donor Advantage Points

Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center gave me so much stuff, although the biggest thing they had was a laptop carrying case. Ended out getting a second one as the first one was lost during Harvey. You want a drink around here, there's a good chance that you'll get it in a blood bank tumbler.

A few items came from Vitalant/Community Blood and a few from New York Blood Center.
