Meanwhile, WaWa, "The iconic convenience-store chain that’s synonymous with Philly and Jersey pride plans to open 280 new stores in the South and Midwest, according to Bloomberg." The article says the targeted expansion states are: North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, and Indiana." HotSkel had previously noted the chain's plans to reach Ohio and a couple of other MW states but the magnitude of this plan is amazing!

Last fall, I took a road trip south thru Kentucky into Tennessee and on to Georgia. A few weeks before that, a story about a new Buc'ees caught my eye. I'd never visited one and was very curious. This thread is about c-stores and it's a huge stretch to include Buc'ees in it. But I'll classify it as a c-store on massive steroids. What follows is most of a post I made in the Did You Buy Fuel thread after my trip that fits (except for Buc'ees size!) better here.
I visited the Union Grove Buc-ee's in Calhoun, GA -- between ATL and Chattanooga -- on I-75. What a massive operation! The store (it can't be called a "C-store"!) has over 50,000 square feet of space. The food area had 4 kinds of prepared sammiches -- including brisket and pulled pork -- but as Hotskel noted previously, no indoor eating area, though there were several picnic tables outside near the door facing the pumps. This Fox5 (ATL) video from the opening of the Calhoun store gives a nice overview of the food offerings.
They had two amazingly long rows of pumps -- 120 total. It looked like at least 75% were being used (kind of hard to see when there are two separate long canopies, each with double stacked pumps!). I never saw a price sign and I didn't fill up there. I couldn't find a photo of the one I visited but, for those who've never been, this smaller Texas store is a decent example, though it has only 64 pumps:
This article anticipates the opening of the Calhoun travel center.
On the way home, I noticed signs for another location near Lexington, which I drove past on the freeway. It had only a single row of pumps -- double stacked -- but the row was a lot longer than the one in Georgia.
I had hoped to get to the new, huge one near Knoxville but that location was over 20 miles east of where I-75 passes thru.

The previous post sets up this one. I posted what follows in the Did you buy? thread the other day.
Came across a very unusual story. Apparently a guy has been banned from going to any Buc-ees for life after taking his emotional support duck inside the chain's largest store just east of Knoxville:
FWIW, that's an incredibly well behaved duck!

I've been meaning to look into a chain that's relatively new to the Cbus area. I finally remembered to do it today.
The chain is Bellstores.
I noticed them first popping up on GB. More recently, a new Bellstores replaced a Shell station in Johnstown, which I drive past fairly often, most recently yesterday.
The Bellstores chain (see link to their "about us" page below), it turns out, is owned by Campbell Oil, a company that started in Massillon, Ohio in 1939. The company:
The chain began to partner with several other companies in 2004, including DQ, Subway and Marathon.
Today, they have 77 locations, all in Ohio, I believe.
