There are probably easier ways to get a big capacitor, the capacitance of the CRTs aren't that great.
And yeah only need the HOT, its driver, and the flyback... That in itself has a lot of HV potential...

My next door neighbor's inkjet printer "took a dump" according to him. (And this just after he bought a $10 bottle of refill ink for it.) He gave me the carcass. I say carcass advisedly, because it looks like he took a crowbar to it and pried it open. He isn't an electronic type (or even a logical troubleshooting type of any kind), so there is little use in him peering inside to try to find out what is wrong. So even if there was something that could have been fixed, it can't be fixed now. Grrr! Maybe it was planned obsolesence. Some YT vids on the subject

Today on the way to the library, I found three PC mother boards on the ground in front of a depository (didn't even have to reach in). Of course the CPUs and heat sinks were missing, but, hey, parts are parts. ---- The other day, while picking up trash at the library, in a bush, I found this switching power supply having a LV flying lead with a 3-pin connector typically used for a printer: The green power LED is in lower-left-hand corner on a white standoff. The cocked transformer (probably from mistreatment from impact with the ground) can be more clearly seen in this closeup: Notice that half of the transformer's leads are broken. At a minimum, this will require that the transformer be pushed back into position and the leads resoldered. This is the cover that conveniently is screwed on instead of being permanently glued: The clear plastic light pipe on the left carries the green LED's light to the top of the case. The tiny Torx screw holds the cover on.

Nope, they all charge... and it's not a capacitor I guess that's the benefit of CA, part of the funding for recycling is probably from taxpayers, not so much from red and even purple states
