Sounds like the bricks are a decent fix.
Last word on the hurricane remnants is they'll make it to STL and then drift east. Southern Ohio may get a little rain by the weekend but central Ohio and parts north may get next to nothing.

Do hurricanes often arrive in Ohio? Seems more like they are a coastal storm feeding off the Atlantic. Several hit the Boston area when I was a kid. We hovered in the boulder foundation of the 3 story house hearing big trees in the yard hit the ground. Two of them.

Hurricanes never reach Ohio -- only the remnants, which are often by far the most significant source of fall rainfall. We're in drought conditions and need those remnants to end it.
Most years, at least one and often two or three remnant systems will pass through all or at least a large portion of the state and drop 2 to 4 inches of rain over 2 to 4 days. Francine is still expected to dry up before she reaches us.

Thanks for explaining how the storms affect your area. I only known how the Boston area was affected. Some areas are in a drought as it has not rained for 3 weeks. Not a drought in northern NH.

It's now been 4+ weeks since I mowed. I think that's got to be a record when leaves are on trees. Francine's remnants deviated from the expected path -- they turned west, which doesn't provide any relief here.

Not sure were Francine is headed, just know LA, MO, AR, and the Gulf Coast is getting heavy rain. It's a Big area of rain fall. On a weather map, it looks like Ohio is going to get it's share.

Actually, Francine headed west from Memphis and the local guessers all agree that it's unlikely even the southwestern corner of the state will see any rain but central Ohio will be shut out. The incredibly dry air is just essentially frying any bands that spin that wide.
The local station I watch the most put together a map (more or less copied from the credited sources) showing most of Cbus is now in an extreme drought condition:

Can see on the weather map the storm is breaking up well before it reaches Cbus. Looks like it'll die in Indiana before it gets to Ohio. You may have a week of strong sun and zero rain. Sorry your area is in an extreme drought.

Thanks, it's brutal. But it's now been over 4 weeks since I mowed! No relief in sight.

It's been 25 days w/o rain in the Boston area. Think it rained once in that time here. Like the dried up puddles and no mud around. Now we can enjoy a real summer for a month.

Not sure what's happening with a storm on the east coast. Normally, it would have charged over the mountains and we'd have had some rain but the guesser says it's going to split and we'll get little if anything from it.
The northern split might head up the coast and drench Boston, maybe even head your way. Or not, the local guesser didn't really cover anything outside our area.

Will watch the weather forecast in my area, 162 miles north of Boston. Am very thankful there is no rain in the forecast for the next 10 days. We are drying out from 6 months of extra heavy almost daily rain.

Looks like the Atlantic storm is reaching parts of southern Ohio but probably not my area. We've got some clouds but nothing wet.
The east coast looks pretty clear from Virginia up to Maine. Not looking like a great day to be in Bermuda and some of the other islands.

It's been 82° for days. It's to be in the 70's come Thursday. Then in the 60's come Sunday. Do see rain in the forecast for next Thursday w/fall- like temps day & night. Sad it is Sept and not May.

The drought continues here with no end in sight. Something like a third of the state has a burn ban including my area. Technically, operating a propane grill closer than 15 feet of a building or without a water source and a fire extinguisher handy violates the ban. Open charcoal grilling is banned, too. I think I could use my smoker legally b/c it has a lid and a chimney, but not sure.
I would also prefer that we were further from winter without having to suffer drenching rain day after day.
