Another day with rain on and off the entire day. Not heavy but fairly steady. The lawn is recovering pretty well but when I mow next week, I'm sure I'll find a lot of burned out spots. Too bad I couldn't have put some seed down ahead of the storm!
Played 18 today with a cart but walked a ton. 2.25 miles.

Lots of work adding seed to the lawn, if the lawn needs it. No more rain here until Wed. Then it's light showers. In the amount of .10". Nice and slow rain on the way.

It would be an undertaking. I'll see what it looks like once the rain stops (been raining lightly all night and morning, no flooding that I've seen) and may just spot seed in the worst areas before the first snow and hope it germinates in the spring before the lawn people apply the pre-emergent treatment. Grass does germinate at a ground temp that's a few degrees below most weeds.
Just got word from friends in North Carolina. They expect to be without power for 2 to 3 weeks and were able to get this message out b/c the local fire department is letting residents use their StarLink connection for a couple of minutes per day. Gas lines are 2 hours long and it's cash only b/c there's no way to process credit/debit cards, and probably checks, too.
I've heard whole towns were washed out in that area and they can't even get in to remove the bodies of those who passed away.

We did not have weeks of utility outages when we had washouts of the roads. Towns contracted folks w/heavy equipment to repair the roads. Thought it went well and fast filing the wash- outs w/rock making french drains on the ditches. They will hold vast amounts of moving water.

I think Helene dumped about 14 inches of rain in less than 24 hours in those mountains. I'm hearing many roads are still submerged and there's no way to know right now how bad things are.

We had our monsoon in July. Seems like a new trend for this area. We'll have to change along w/the weather. Did like the ways of the old. Like new as well, as long as the weather remains nice.

Trend or one off? Weather patterns vary here year to year except for September.
Mowed for the first time in 6 weeks. Expected it to be a lot softer than it turned out to be. Kinda like the first mow in the spring with patchy growth, some high, some not much at all. Stayed with 5.5 inches to avoid clumps. Maybe mow again Friday, maybe lowering the blade a quarter or even half inch.

Might be a trend. Hung out around the house to get some outdoor chores completed. The leaves are in their peak color. Tho nowhere as colorful as they once were. The temp has not fallen below freezing to give them some vibrant color. Doubt if they ever will.

If it doesn't drop below 32, the colors you do have may last longer.
Played 18 today. Took a cart but it was cart path only. The fairways were squishy in a lot of places. So I ended up walking a bunch of holes and, when it's cart path only, the cart path is the one place my ball stays clear of. I walked 3.75 miles.

Nights below freezing brighten up the leaf colors so intensely. The last decade and a half have seen the first frost jump from Labor Day to somewhere near Columbus Day w/e. The leaves are at their peak colors which is very moderate, compared to how brilliant they once were.

Varies year to year here. Early next week, we're looking at lows in the low 40s. So by mid October, we might be looking at a frost. Just about on schedule.
Pleased that my quads didn't scream about yesterday's activity. May try to walk at least 9 tomorrow.

Getting some colors here. The spots that r'ced frost are the most colorful. No frost here, yet 12 miles nearby show the best colors in years. The peak of colors are due in a few days. Need to go for a drive to the 4,000 ft mtns east and south of here.

Sounds like it's gonna be a good year for fall color there.
Not much happening here yet other than a few leaves down due to the drought. Mid October is usually the start of it.

Have a good idea how NC is after the rains washed out our roads. No one died like the areas Helene flooded. The bodies must smell like the devil after 2-3 weeks. Read the NC governor does not want tourists to visit and the ground yellow jackets are upset and are stinging angry.

Can't imagine tourists going there. It's total devastation.
My friends did get power back and were able to get out of there. Most are not that fortunate. But at least folks are getting $750 from FEMA . . . .
