Stay on standard time the whole year, but if Congress insists, then leave it to the states.

12:00 noon (or within half an hour) should be the same as solar noon, period!

Since I've become a daywalker, I tend to favor standard time year-round. I'd rather have the extra daylight in the morning than the evening.

I think what you're saying, mnrick, is that you'd like everything to always start an hour later in the day? If that's what ppl want, shouldn't starting times simply be moved from, say, 7 to 8 am? I'm not opposed to the concept but going to DST all the time seems to be saying we're going extend the fiction instead of deal with reality, isn't it? In fact, maybe there are some/many activities for which starting/ending times should be changed seasonally instead of mandating the stupidity of pretending it's an hour later than it actually is. Meanwhile, the rest of the world is on standard time year round and there's now an extra hour of difference to account for internationally all year instead of only part (most) of it as we do now.

Sorry, I have not been on here in quite awhile and just saw your question. There are two choices, those who want to go to DST permanently and those who want to be on standard time permanently. Neither would be perfect and people, depending on where they live in the country, would be affected differently by either option.
I've read up on this and what the different opinions are, experts cite the detrimental health effects (mental and physical) of waking up unnaturally to darkness, others complain that they'd be driving/walking to/from school or work in the dark or that ST makes it dark too early in the winter but leaving it on ST all year would make it light too early in the summer and so on. There is even what is called the "western edge effect" where people who live in the western part of a time zone (where the sun comes up even later) are more likely to suffer a list of health ailments than their counterparts who live in the Eastern part of a time zone.
For me, I am in Minnesota and this far north we have a lack of sunlight in the winter, regardless of what they do with the clocks most of us here are waking up to and starting our daily routines in the darkness for most of the winter and to make matters worse it's already dark again by the time you get off work and drive home so winter is shot no matter what. The time change to ST shifts it slightly but most people (unless they don't wake up until after 8 AM) are living a routine that sleep experts say is unhealthy. As modern people we don't live by the rise and fall of the sun, we have routines that demand we get up and go to bed at times that are out of sync with nature.
So whether you personally call it "reality" or "nature" or whatever it is just a matter of opinion of what time we want to be on. I've lived in the far north all my life, I think I am used to waking up in the dark for over half the year but I don't know what effect that has had on my health or moods, I am not getting that natural rhythm provided by early morning sunlight. If, like you suggest, we just move our routines forward an hour, it would alleviate the waking up in the dark for more people but depending on where you are on the map it would be dark when your child walks out of school in the afternoon in the wintertime. So, like I said in the beginning, neither option is perfect and people across the country would be effected differently. It's just my opinion that if I had to choose one or the other I would rather be on permanent daylight savings time.

I've wished for permanent DLS time since long before it became a possibility. I agree with everything MNRIck said about it, including how it affects us up here in the north. I hate when its dark by 5 pm, among other things.
