I saw The Irishman during it's brief stint in theatres last fall and am now reading I Hear You Paint Houses, the nonfiction work upon which the movie is based. Frank Sheerhan, the mobster who admits to killing Jimmy Hoffa, was a different guy before going to war in WWII. The book shares a lot about the prewar Sheerhan, including that he once placed second (with a partner) in a jitterbug contest in NYC. The song he danced to was Tuxedo Junction by Erskine Hawkins -- Glenn Miller is better known for this song, but Hawkins played it first. I'll post that song in the 40s topic (if there is one). My quick search didn't find a live version of that song, just a picture of a record player playing a 78 rpm recording. But the next song that popped up was a live performance by the Erskine Hawkins Band of a song identified in the comments as Swinging in Harlem, which I liked a lot:

I'll be a bit more active here now. SiriusXM now offers streaming on personal devices using their app at no additional cost and I finally got around to setting it up. I had an XM account for years before they merged and the email address used to set it up is no longer operational. That made setting up an account problematical but eventually their people were able to help and now I'm in business! Each Saturday afternoon from Noon to 2:15 pm and again on Sunday mornings from 9 to 11:15 am their 70s on 7 channel replays (without commercial interruptions of any sort, including the annoying SiriusXM self promotions!) one of Casey Kasem's American Top 40 shows from the same week of one year iof the 70s decade. Sunday's show repeats the same show as Saturday's. This week's show featured the top 40 hits from Billboard's March 2, 1974 survey. There's a lot of good stuff in that week, including one of my favorite duets -- Carly Simon and James Taylor's rendition of Mockingbird, which came in at #13 that week. Here's their outstanding live performance from youtube:

I was just looking for information on the late '50s/early 60s TV show, 77 Sunset Strip and learned that one of it's co-stars, Edd Byrnes, who played the teen aged heart throb "Kookie", passed away on January 8th at the age of 87. The linked obit reveals that JFK's vanity deprived Byrnes of the leading role in PT 109. Byrnes was better known to me for his role in the 1978 movie musical Grease, in which he played Frank Fontaine, an apparent play on Dick Clark's role on American Bandstand. Here's a clip of Bryne's appearance on the Saturday Night Beech-Nut Show on April 04, 1959 with Connie Stevens performing their 1959, err, hit called, Kookie, Kookie, Lend Me Your Comb (it would peak at #4 on the Billboard 100 the following month):

Ray Stevens, who brought us that exceptional (love it or hate it, it was exceptional!) 70s hit, The Streak, shows he's still got it with Quarantined:

I listened to part of the 60s on 6 Satellite Survey this morning walking around my neighborhood for a little more than 2 1/3 miles. I was familiar with the song that came in at #11 from this week in 1965, but not by the artist:
BLOWIN' IN THE WIND -- Stevie Wonder
So I decided to check out some other versions.
Bob Dylan was the original artist, performing it live here:
Peter, Paul & Mary probably did the most popular version. I'd never seen this live version:
And here's a couple of bonuses! First by the BeeGees in 1963:
Finally, Johnny Cash on Letterman in 1993, previewing a big Dylan tribute:
5 live versions by 5 artists spanning 30 years. It's the same song, yet it's a totally different song each time!

Mac Davis passed away yesterday at the age of 78. He hit it big with Baby Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me in 1972:

Helen Ready also passed away yesterday. She was also 78. She's probably best known for her anthem, I Am Woman:

The first Friday of each month on SeriusXM's Sinatra channel features 24 straight hours of songs by the channel's namesake. The rest of the month, it's just a mix of that style of music. I tuned in a week ago and they were featuring Sinatra's legendary performance in 1978 at Caesar's Palace. That story includes an embedded youtube link to his on stage rendering of My Kind of Town: The picture of the Sands from 1959 is outstanding! This social media link has an hour plus long video of the performance.
