Mo'orea and its highest mountain MouaPuta (split rock, named for the natural hole pierced through the mountain near its summit). Located 12 miles west of Tahiti in French Polynesia. Misty views of Mo'rea from Tahiti were used to depict the mystical island, Bali Hai, in the movie South Pacific. However, most of the scenes in South Pacific were filmed on Kauai in Hawaii. Uspallata Pass - 12,500' elevation, on the Argentina / Chile border. The Pan American highway and a railroad connecting Santiago, Chile and Mendoza, Argentina traverse through the pass. However, a 1.9 mile long tunnel built in 1980 bypasses under the pass at an elevation of 10,417'. The older road can still be used to visit the "Christ the Redeemer of the Andes" monument at the border and summit of the pass. The pass is between Aconcagua Peak (22,841') to the north and Tupungato Peak (21,555') to the south.
