Does it need to be "living", or is dead acceptable, as in Columbus?

Does it need to be "living", or is dead acceptable, as in Columbus? I have always believed (as do others) that nothing should be named after a living human. People often discredit themselves over time. Or the truth about former deeds may not yet be public knowledge. We are all flawed. In general it is best to wait several years or decades to name anything after a human.
Further everything currently living will physically die: animals, humans, and plants. All will live on physically in future generations.
That is the end of my lay sermonizing.

BillG, - Good observation! As a result, I have removed the term "living" from the category description. Thanks! catskillhiker - , my usage of the term "living" was probably the result of my sermonizing since, every now and then, in sermons & such I refer to the Greek word "zoe" (from where we get "zoology") one of a few Greek words for life.
