Black Forest - Southwestern Germany. Been there. The name derives from the dark conifer trees which appear black from a distance. What impressed me most was that the cleared farm fields were such a lush green. It reminded me of the old Spike Jones classical parody that "The Blue Danube is not blue, it's green!". The Danube River often appears green from pollution.

Grand Canal - Venice, Italy. I have been there, and it is very beautiful and romantic. However, the water can be fairly foul. I have also been to the Grand Canal in China. It is a far greater engineering accomplishment. However, I cannot currently recommend that anybody visit the PRC. Oaxaca, Mexico (been there). Pronounced "wa ha ca" (go figure).
Both a state and city. Monte Alban is near the city and was home to a succession of early civilizations. The city is known for its brightly painted buildings. Both the city and state are in southwestern Mexico, and perhaps well out of the stream of migrants coming to the USA. It was my favorite city and state in Mexico. It had very laid back and friendly people when I was there in the early 1990s.
