Red, Is it the rainy season there? The trees sound pretty.

Rainy season falls in different months depending on the part of the country, DG. In this area, it starts in May and lasts until Oct. As this is a seaside town, there isn't any negative effect from the rain, water just flows right into the ocean. However, when the sea is rough, fishermen can't take the boats out and the result is higher priced seafood, and not every kind of seafood is available.
I haven't written anything on the blog since before the last trip to Thailand, I need to stop procrastinate and get back to it before we leave again. Our next two trips are Australia in Sept, the Emirates and Brunei in Nov. I know what I should write, but the first paragraph of any blog post is always difficult, once I find a way to pass that, I can go on and on.

Good to hear from you Red and thanks for your congrats on 7/19. That post made me wonder if I should change my "name" to GoldieRed. LOL
Is it Monsoons there, or are those specific to India? You have some exciting trips planned. Were you in Thailand when the soccer team was trapped in the cave? Such a joy that they were rescued and are doing well now. But very sad that a Thai Navy Seal died trying to rescue them.
To those who are good at tech: the mouse I use with my iMac computer has reversed itself. Now scrolling the wheel toward me scrolls upward instead of down, and vice versa. I just restarted after having done a safe reboot, but I've don that many times and this has not happened before. Also the color I was using for highlighting reverted to the standard blue. This has happened in the past and I don't recall if I manually changed it in preferences or if it eventually went back on its own.
Adjusting to the scrolling change is as bad as trying to get used to the stick shift on the floor in my new car instead of the transmission behind the steering wheel in my old car.
BTW, the other night at Trader Joe's an older man (not one of the young "kids") commented on my car. When I responded, "It looks news, doesn't it? It's not, it's ten years old." He was surprised and thought it was a new car.

OK, I went into system preferences and saw one for the mouse. I've never set a preference for the mouse before, that I recall. It was set to "natural" and when I changed it, it went back to normal. Scrolling down to go down seems "natural" to me, but whatever, I solved that issue.
But I'm wondering if there is a bigger issue: why did so many preferences change? Earlier when I went to log into my gmail account it didn't recognize this computer and I had to go through all the validating steps. Is this something to worry about? Are there any steps I should take?
I recently updated to a newer OS version, but not an upgrade to a newer OS. And I must have restarted it after that, so I don't understand why changes from that would only start today. This is confusing to me. Any ideas?
I need a cup of tea or a glass of ice tea.

Gmail always asks for validation if there's a change in the device, or in the way you log in, or anything that they think is out of the ordinary. It happens to me very often. Apple often does the same on my iPhone and iPad at device sign in and always when there's a change in the system.

Red, That's ok about the blog...sometimes life gets in the way and it's definitely more interesting. I recently bought a region free dvd player so I could get some british shows that I enjoy that aren't on the us format.
goldie, Sometimes when updates run stuff doesn't work the same...it's not supposed to happen but it does. Btw, I noticed that BirdsEye has a couple of new products at the Cub near me. One is chicken fried cauliflower rice. From what I can tell the rice part is the cauliflower. I can't recall what the other product is off hand.

I think whoever invented region-free DVD player should've earned a statue erected in every continent.

I agree. It's a pretty crazy thing. Supposedly it's not legal to sell region free players in the US but they can be sold if it's an after market fix. I got the dvd player and the dvd's came from a UK company a couple of weeks later. I was kind of leary as the dvd player just has an added on sticker on the back that says "region free" but it works great. If anyone is looking for one, here is the link for the company that I used. region free dvd players.

But there wasn't really a change in the system and I've made updates before without these issues and I'd restarted both of them since making the updates. Well, everything seems to be working now. I really need to do a back-up so I can upgrade to the newest OS, though. To be clear I'd only updated within the same OS (El Capitan), not upgraded to the newer one (High Sierra). It was that kind of day, with other tech issues coming up, too. Now I can't remember my password for cell phone voicemail and the instructions to get a new one aren't working. Ok, I got the password right this time. See what I mean? They were old messages, one a wrong number. I wonder if it's really a phishing call or a real call to a former owner of the phone. It was someone calling about a $250,000 line of business credit. Really? I am not going to return the call to find out. Might do a search on the number, if I think of it later. I can't find the charging cord for the cell phone. I leave it plugged in but it's not there (?). I found out that my Wifi hotspot charging cord works in the phone, which I didn't now (hadn't looked that carefully at them) but there should be two. DG, riced veggies are a BIG thing these days. I've got several bags in the freezer right now, but none with chicken. I don't think they taste like rice, but I use them sometimes to add veggies, fiber, etc to rice or other carbs or to other things, and they pretty much blend in. I'd forgotten, though, so this is a good reminder. As usual, I get organic and bought a bunch of them when Fresh Thyme had them on sale. The kinds they have, which I bought, are cauliflower, broccoli and mixed medley which has both of those plus carrots. Oh darn, I've already forgotten some of the ways I used them that I liked and wanted to do again. I guess it's not only tech that's screwed up.
DG, did you get anything good that I'd like in British DVDs? Shows that have been on PBS that I might have seen? Eastenders?
That reminds me, has anyone seen the movie Me Before You? (Don't read the plot summary if you haven't seen it yet.) I had free "preview" access to one of the premium services this weekend, and I watched that and Hello My Name is Doris (with Sally Field). I liked them both. The latter struck a little too close to home, though. But Me Before You really moved me and I've been thinking about it ever since. It had me smiling and crying at the same time. Really good if you get a chance and haven't already seen it. It's British, too, come to think of it, with some beautiful scenery.

I read the book a few years ago, and listened to it last year. A controversial subject handled beautifully by Jojo Moyes. All the narrators in the audio version also did a wonderful job.
I don't think I'll reread or re-listen to it again (crying twice is two times too many) but I keep both versions in my external HD. As watching it, I'll not have the chance, but even if I do, I won't either. I try not to feel sad about anything.

Do the audio and ebooks just have someone reading it or actors verbally playing the parts (ie, different actors reading the different characters)?

The ebook is digital, the audiobook has 5 narrators, each plays the part of one person.
If you wish to have either or both versions, I can send it/them to you.

There are 2 sequels: After You, and Still Me. I have all 3 books in both digital and audio versions. Let me know if you want any of them.

goldie, As far as I know EastEnders is not on dvd and won't be anytime soon but there are a couple of dvds that have the characters on them. I remember seeing a box set available years ago but it was an April Fools joke. The dvd I got is of a police series. Me before you doesn't sound like something that I would watch. For the most part I prefer comedies.
Red, I'd forgotten that you moved a lot of your collection to digital before you left. I agree about not feeling sad. I prefer comedies as I think that laughter may make us live longer. A good friend of mine doesn't like comedies and never watches them. I can't even understand that.
