items 1 ACLJ / Jordan Sekulow, 2 & 3 www.icommittopray.com/, 4 to 8 info.persecution.org, 9 - many
1 - TURKEY - ACLJ / Jordan Sekulow - The trial for Pastor Andrew Brunson resumes Monday May 7. Pastor Andrew is in prison in Turkey on false charges and faces 35 years in a Turkish prison – essentially a life sentence for the 50-year-old American pastor.
2 - China - A Christian in the Zhoukou area of Henan province said that under new government restrictions, area churches are required to sing the Chinese national anthem at the beginning of each service and a nationalistic song titled “No Communist Party, No New China” at the end of service. Local authorities also issued an order forbidding anyone under 18 from entering a church. The Christian said officials recently walked around the neighborhood and removed ceramic tiles with inscriptions like “Emmanuel” or “God so loved the world.” They even walked into his mother’s bedroom and tore down a painting. Government authorities attend every Sunday service to ensure that no crosses larger than 3 feet are displayed. And if they see children in attendance, they will close down the church. “At this challenging period,” the Christian said, “many believers are afraid to come to church.” Pray for churches in Henan, and pray for the unity and wisdom of believers when dealing with authorities.
3 - Turkey - Haddad, a former Muslim, placed his faith in Christ recently after an elderly woman prayed for him at a bus station. His search for truth began with the woman’s simple prayer that God would guide him to salvation. He first abandoned Islamic fanaticism and thoughts of terrorism after listening to apologetic programs on the Arabic Christian television station Al Hayat. Later, after deciding to follow Jesus, he got involved in a church without his family and friends knowing. Last year, however, his mother found Christian books and a Bible in his room and realized he had converted to Christianity. Haddad’s family beat him so badly that his leg was broken, and he also sustained injuries to his head and shoulders. After recovering, Haddad fled the country. Pray that Haddad and other new believers will grow in faith and have opportunities to share their faith with their families. Pray for reconciliation between Haddad and his family.
4 - Myanmar (Radio Free Asia) - In recent clashes between the national army and the Kachin Independence Army, thousands of civilians have been displaced. The latest fighting stranded 2,000 villagers. Approximately 5,000 people protested in the capital to demand rescue for those driven from their homes. Many of those displaced from their homes have found refuge in local churches. Pray for God's protection and presence to bring comfort, provision, and refuge to escaping civilians. Pray for God's peace and discernment for authorities as they make decisions. Pray for wisdom and justice to reign and end the long-running conflict in Myanmar.
5 - Nigeria - Pray for the Nigerian government to develop strategies to protect Christians in the region. Pray for discernment for churches and authorities and for them to find refuge in the midst of attacks. Pray for the restoration of crops, property, and worship centers that have been destroyed.
6 - North Korea (Channel News Asia) - Defectors have been throwing hundreds of bottles into the sea. Hoping to share a picture of freedom with North Koreans, they have filled these bottles with food, cash, medicine, and USB sticks containing movies, current affairs programs, and music videos. It is reported that many of these bottles are discovered by North Korean fishing boats. Pray for the people of North and South Korea to come to a relationship with Jesus Christ. Pray for wisdom for all authorities making decisions affecting these countries. Pray for protection and provision for defectors who have fled their homes.
7 - Kenya (Citizen) - While searching for criminals in Kisiriri village, armed officers allegedly burned down two churches and several houses during the operations. Pastor Thomas Nasikei also accused officers of taking valuable church equipment. County Police said that security personnel were deployed to the village after two people were shot by armed raiders. Pray for God's peace to reign over anger and fear in the face of loss. Pray that those who have done wrong will be brought to justice. Pray for the restoration of property and fellowship for those who have experienced loss.
8 - CHINA- Gao Zhisheng was arrested in 2006 for providing legal assistance to religious minority groups and underprivileged individuals in China. Gao spent the next eight years in and out of prison, enduring various forms of torture. He disappeared in August 2017 and his current whereabouts are unknown, but it is believed that he has been put in custody again by the Chinese government. Please join ICC as we call on the government of China to release Gao Zhisheng so that he can return to his family once and for all.
9 - PAKISTAN - (CitzenGo) - President of the Supreme Court of Pakistan has promised that he will accept Asia Bibi's appeal, which suggests that the end of the case could be close. Since last year, Asia Bibi's appeal had been stalled legally. She was still on death row without an end in sight, after eight interminable years locked up for a crime of blasphemy that she did not commit. Now there is new hope that she will be released.

The three men came home with Pompeo from Northern Korea. Praise God. Now we have to pray that the Christian minister in Turkey will be release. They are charging him as a spy.

Thanks MM!
(see item 4 in regard to the minister in prison in Turkey)
5/11/18 - items 1-3 www.icommittopray.com/, 4 to 7 info.persecution.org, 8 Change.org, 9 - many
1 - India - A pastor serving one of India’s minority tribal groups was murdered last week by suspected Maoists. On the evening of May 2, about 25 masked men abducted Pastor Abraham Topno from a taxi he was riding in, and the pastor’s beheaded body was found hours later along with a note signed by a communist rebel group operating in nearby Odisha state. According to a longtime friend of the pastor, he specifically chose to serve among the minority tribal group, despite the dangerous and challenging environment. His church had recently grown in number to about 60 believers. Pray for the pastor’s family and for Christians in the area.
2 - Central African Republic - About 60,000 Christians in southeastern Central African Republic (CAR) have been forced to flee their towns after a series of attacks by local Muslims. Several months after joint U.S. and Ugandan forces pulled out of the region last year, area Muslims launched a campaign to drive Christians out by razing Christian-majority towns and villages. On Nov. 20, villagers in Dembia were awakened by gunfire at 4 a.m. as local Muslims attacked without warning. The Christians ran from their village in a heavy downpour, wearing only the clothes in which they were sleeping, and took cover in the bush. Their village was completely destroyed over the next three days. During the attack, village elderly were reportedly gathered in a building and burned alive. Although the total number of killed is unknown, since villagers dispersed and have been unable to return, one believer who survived the attack knew of at least 46 people who were killed. The Christian towns that were attacked have either been destroyed completely or remain under the control of local Muslims and jihadist allies. Pray that these Christians will be able to return to their villages.
3 - Tanzania - Less than 18 months ago, a group of local Muslims tried to burn down Pastor David’s house in broad daylight, while only his wife and children were at home. The attackers doused the back of the house with gasoline before tossing a match through the window. Thankfully, David’s family escaped unharmed, but the home and everything inside were destroyed. Local Muslims later told David that the men intended to kill his child and force his family to leave the island. The arsonists were never charged. Attacks and threats like this are not uncommon in Zanzibar, where 99 percent of the population is Muslim. The government of Zanzibar appears to pursue a strategy of removing all Christians and churches from the island. Thank God for pastors serving in Zanzibar who take a bold stand for Christ in the face of intense persecution and direct government opposition. Pray for the protection of their families and congregations.
4 - Turkey (MEC) - After listening to the testimonies of witnesses and authorities, Pastor Brunson was disheartened by many false, shameful, and disgusting claims brought against him by the Turkish government. Those observing stated that the hearing and allegations only confirm that Andrew’s continued detention is singularly political. The next hearing is scheduled for July 18. Pray for the presence of Christ to be clearly seen with Pastor Brunson, so that all authorities will come to know the power of God. Pray for the international community to condemn the unjust and false actions. Pray for the Lord to deliver Pastor Brunson from the hand of all enemies.
5 - Nigeria (CNN) - Over 1,000 hostages of Boko Haram, the majority being women and children, were rescued in Borno State during an ongoing military operation conducted in conjunction with Cameroonian and Nigerian troops. Hostages were rescued from Malamkari, Amchaka, Walasa, and Gora villages. Boko Haram has sparked global outrage by seizing girls from schools throughout Nigeria. Pray for healing and peace for those who were rescued from captivity. Pray for wisdom for the Nigerian and Cameroonian military as they continue to push back against Boko Haram. Pray for Boko Haram militants to repent of their violence and come to know Christ.
6 - Uganda - (Christian Post) Ostracized by Muslim relatives, Kuzaifa, and his family left their village, but eventually returned home. On April 1, Kuzaifa was found with head injuries which resulted in his death. After the Muslim relatives took his body from the mortuary, Christians discovered the mutilated body in a small grave. The Christians then retook the body, washed it, and provided an appropriate burial. Pray for the family of Kuzaifa – for protection, comfort and financial assistance. Pray that peace will reign in the midst of tensions between Muslims and Christians in the area. Pray for Jesus to reveal Himself to those who gave their lives to Christ through this ordeal.
7 - Pakistan (ICC) - ISIS claimed responsibility for an attack on a Christian family during a gathering to celebrate Easter. Masked men with guns arrived on a motorbike and began shooting. The attackers then failed in an attempt to enter the house, but family members found the bodies of their loved ones on the ground shortly after. ISIS claimed that a “covert unit” had succeeded in targeting the Christians. Pray for comfort and peace for those who have suffered loss, especially Shama who is now widowed with seven children. Pray for safety, restoration, and provision for the children. Pray for authorities to bring justice to those responsible for attacks and wisdom to protect those targeted by ISIS.
8 - Sudan-Teenager Noura Hussein was forced to marry a man against her will, who violently raped her in front of a crowd of his male relatives. In self-defense Noura killed her attacker, but now the government of Sudan has sentenced Noura to death. Activists around the globe are now calling on Sudan to spare Noura’s life.
9 - Also in prison: Asia Bibi (Pakistan) and Gao Zhisheng (China)

items 1-3 www.icommittopray.com/, 4 to 7 info.persecution.org, 8 many
1 - China - A court recently sentenced North Carolina pastor John Cao, 58, to 7 years in prison and fined him $3,000 for “organizing illegal border crossings.” The pastor, who has been detained since his arrest in March 2017, allegedly crossed the China-Myanmar border to minister to 2,000 impoverished minority children in Myanmar’s norther Wa state. He also helped build 16 schools there after building more than a dozen schools in China. Pray for the pastor’s wife, who is an American citizen, and their two sons. Experts believe his arrest and sentencing are related to the ruling Communist Party’s attempts to control the house church movement. Pray that he remains firm in faith as he faces an uncertain future behind bars, and that he will continue to be a light amid spiritual darkness.
2 - Pakistan - A Pakistani Bible school student was arrested and detained for a day after giving Christian literature to a Muslim man who had asked for it. Samir was in the market with a friend when a Muslim shop owner asked for a set of his Christian books. After Samir gave them to him, the shop owner called police. Police then questioned Samir and his friend, confiscating their literature, money and phones before taking them to the police station. The two Christians were locked in an interrogation room for nearly 12 hours, until being released by a higher ranking officer who said he respected Christians. While in detention, the men prayed and recited as many Bible verses as they could remember. Both men continue to share the gospel with Muslims today, and Samir said the experience has made them even bolder.
3 - Central African Republic - Severin Bassala, who served as an elder in his church, was sleeping in a field at his farm on Dec. 5, 2013, when Seleka Muslim rebels attacked his village. The rebels went house to house, breaking down doors and stealing whatever they could find. Prior to the attack, the rebels had received information about which homes belonged to Christians. Since Severin was at his farm, he was unable to protect his family when the rebels entered his house. They nearly killed his wife by stepping on her chest. Severin returned to his home after the attack and took his family to a refugee camp in Bangui, the nation’s capital. They remained in the camp until the government closed it in 2017. Unable to return to their destroyed home, Severin and his family moved in with a Christian brother.
4 - China (China Aid) - The leader of the national security brigade of the Xicheng District Public Security Bureau brought a team of several officials to a church service on May 6. Though the service was not interrupted, the visitors took pictures and made it clear that they were conducting an inspection. On May 8, the church's landlord was pressured to invalidate their lease. Pray for the landlord to favor God's purpose for the building and to honor God rather than man, and for the authorities to perceive the presence and power of the God. Pray for God's peace to reign as members of the church pray, fast, and come together in worship.
5 - Indonesia (ICC) - Explosions at three churches killed 13 and wounded more than 40 just before Sunday services. A family of six belonging to the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD), is behind the suicide bombings. Pray for God's peace to overcome all fear during this time. Pray for the churches to continue to unite in prayer. Pray for the government to take swift action to administer justice and prevent similar attacks from occurring.
6 - Nigeria (All Africa) - Christian groups in Nigeria, the United States, the United Kingdom, and other parts of the world came together in special prayer for Leah Sharibu on her 15th birthday, May 14. She was one of 110 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram on February 19. However, she is the only girl who has not yet been released simply because she is a Christian. Pray for Leah's captors to see the power and love of the God that surrounds Leah. Pray for Leah to be filled with boldness and peace, and pray for her protection. Pray for this situation to attract international attention and condemnation from global leaders who may influence her release.
7 - Myanmar (The Guardian) - Aid groups say that they are being blocked from bringing resources and emergency supplies to civilians who are trapped as they flee attacks from the Burmese military. Yanghee Lee, the UN's human rights expert for Myanmar, said, "Innocent civilians are being killed and injured." Since April, more than 6,800 villagers have been forced to leave their homes. Pray for provision for those forced to leave their homes. Pray for God's peace and protection to surround those caught in the crossfire. Pray for those in the Burmese military to see the God who is present with those who call upon His name.
8 - Asia Bibi (imprisoned in Pakistan), Andrew Brunson (imprisoned in Turkey), Gao Zhisheng (imprisoned in China)

1 - Indonesia - Three churches in Surabaya, Indonesia, were attacked by suicide bombers from a single family on Sunday, May 13, resulting in at least 13 deaths. Two teenage boys from the family rode motorcycles into a church and detonated explosives at 7:30 a.m., five minutes before their father drove a car packed with explosives into the Surabaya Center Pentecostal Church. Shortly afterward, the man’s wife and two daughters, ages 9 and 12, approached the Diponegoro Indonesian Christian Church and detonated a bomb when they were stopped by a security guard. At least 13 people died, not including the attackers. “We are sad and grieving because of the terrorism act in Surabaya,” Pastor Yosua Nugraha said. “What they expect is that we will suspect each other, hate other and close ourselves so they can easily do more terror. Pray that Christians in Indonesia will remain firm in the Lord.
2 - India - A Christian man and his family are living under a tarp in a field after being kicked out of the family home by the man’s brother. Anaram Bokar was a Buddhist before coming to know Christ in 2004. He planted a church in 2007 and led a congregation of 47 believers who met in a family home he shared with his brother. As word spread that Anaram was sharing the gospel, he began to face opposition from villagers. And his own brother became his strongest opponent, playing the TV loudly during Sunday services and harassing the Christians in other ways. Finally, this year Anaram’s brother ordered him and his family out of their home before demolishing the section of the house where they lived. Village leaders have refused to intervene because Anaram is a Christian. Anaram, his wife and their children are currently taking shelter under a tarp on their farmland. Pray that Anaram will be able to respond to his brother with love and forgiveness, and pray that their relationship will be restored.
3 - Mauritania - Christians in Mauritania are worried about recent changes to the laws regarding religious conversion. On April 27, the Mauritanian National Assembly approved changes that increase the possible penalty for apostasy. Previously, Muslims convicted of leaving Islam were given three days to return to the Muslim faith. That opportunity is no longer provided for certain offenses, and the death penalty is now mandatory in the case of “blasphemous remarks” and “sacrilegious acts.” The changes also allow a prison sentence of up to two years and a fine of about $17,100 for “outrage to public decency and the values of Islam” or “the breach of prohibitions prescribed by Allah or the facilitation of their non-compliance.” Though no Christian convert from Islam has yet received the death penalty, these changes could have serious consequences for new Christian converts. Pray that these legal changes will not cause Christians to fear and will not deter Muslims from seeking the truth.
4 - Nepal (ICC) - In March, a church in Nepal’s Dhading District was set on fire, which initiated a non-stop string of persecution incidents. Furthermore, on April 8, a Hindu priest forced one of his disciples to shoot and wound him in order to fake an assassination attempt. These actions were done in an attempt to incite religious violence against Christians in the region. Pray for protection for Christians and boldness as they continue to share the Gospel. Pray that false accusations will continue to be uncovered by authorities. Pray that extremists will see the Spirit of God in His followers and place their trust in Christ.
5 - Nigeria (Newsmax) - The fate of Leah Sharibu, a 15-year-old Nigerian girl abducted by Boko Haram, could spark a full-blown sectarian war. It is reported that she refused to renounce her Christian faith, leading her captors to deny her release. Pray for peace and wisdom for all churches involved in this situation. Pray for God’s comfort and protection for Christians who have experienced loss of loved ones due to Boko Haram. Pray for the government to bring justice to those responsible and have wisdom to secure Leah’s release.
6 - Syria (AINA) - The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claimed that ISIS fighters and their families boarded buses that carried them out of Damascus, toward the Syrian Desert. With international support, Syrian forces have made progress in districts heavy with resistance. A military official said that this was temporary in order to evacuate women, children, and the elderly. Pray for protection, provision, and shelter for those who have been affected by violence at the hands of ISIS. Pray for the peace of God to be established in the region. Pray for all soldiers in the area to come to know the Lord.
7 - Russia (New York Times) - Attackers were killed by police at the Archangel Michael Church when gunmen assaulted and killed at least one churchgoer and two police officers. Armed with knives, hatchets, and explosives, the gunmen took hostages during the attack. However, it is not yet clear whether there is a link between the attackers and any extremist groups. Pray for peace to reign over those who lost loved ones in this attack. Pray for discernment and wisdom for authorities as they provide protection for this church. Pray for the salvation of anti-Christian extremists in the region who seek to carry out similar attacks.
8 - Nigeria - Over the last 20 years, it is estimated that victims of attacks led by Boko Haram and Fulani militants number as high as 50,000 to 60,000. The lack of action by the Nigerian government continues to embolden the Fulani militants in their violent actions. Pray that the Nigerian government takes action to bring the Fulani militants to justice and provides safety and security for Nigeria’s Christians.

items 1-3 www.icommittopray.com/, 4 to 8 info.persecution.org
1 - Syria - Enaam, a Kurdish Syrian Christian, left Islam more than 10 years ago after having a dream about Jesus. “I now own the world and am feeling like the richest person out there,” he said. But Enaam’s family lives in an area of Syria that is being heavily bombed, and he longs for them to know Christ as he does. Pray that Enaam will have opportunities to share the gospel with his family and that the Holy Spirit will give them saving faith during this tense time.
2 - China - Teachers in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, recently sent messages to the parents of elementary and middle-school students, demanding that the parents disclose their religious beliefs. One Christian said school officials have even come to Christian parents’ homes and workplaces, asking them to renounce their faith. And in some cases, employers are pressured into reducing the pay of Christian employees in an effort to dissuade them from attending church. In one part of China, an online publication warned, “Schools should make clear to students that they should not have any religious beliefs, propagandize religions, or enter churches.” The publication also stated that schools whose students attend church will face hard punishment, because religion is a “foreign invasion.” Pray that believers in China will not give in to pressure.
3 - Bangladesh - A former Muslim in Bangladesh is sharing Christ with some of the thousands of Rohingya Muslim refugees from neighboring Myanmar. In October, he shared with 100 people, and 60 gave their lives to Christ. This evangelist baptized five of them and plans to baptize the rest soon. The large number of refugees in Bangladesh has created a great opportunity to reach people who would otherwise be unreachable. Praise God for our brothers and sisters who are making the most of every opportunity. According to one of the workers, “Many of the Rohingya friends are seeking truth. They also want freedom. We tell them, ‘Only the Lord Jesus Christ can give freedom.’” Pray for the team as they continue to reach out. Pray also that the new believers will grow and remain committed to their new faith.
4 - Nigeria - (International Christian Concern) Florence Hosea, 15, of Kaduna State, Nigeria was raped and kidnapped while searching for firewood on March 23. Her rapist took her to a Muslim community where she was held overnight and told that she and her family would die if she tried to fight or publicize the crime. Police forces eventually rescued her but have yet to make arrests. Pray for protection, healing, and peace for Florence and her family. Pray for the arrest of Florence’s rapist. Pray that authorities will establish and execute a precedent for justice in these situations. Pray for the attackers and families to come to know the God.
5 - China (USA News) - The Communist Party in China is exploiting the strained relationship between the younger generation and the church by aggressively promoting communism as the new savior of the country. As state-sponsored churches puppet the Party message, churches that are faithful to the Gospel often stand as a final bastion against the communist agenda. Pray for God's love, peace and power to penetrate those in the Communist Party. Pray for God's Spirit to strengthen hope and restore truth in the hearts of young people in China and throughout the world.
6 - India (Morning Star News) - Hindu radicals assaulted vulnerable senior citizens, women, and children in a recent attack on a church service in northern India. The extremists seized and beat 55-year-old Ram Prasad with a wooden stick until he lay unconscious. The men searched for the pastor, saying, “We will kill him today,” but church members hid the pastor to save his life. Pray for healing and restoration for the church family and others who experienced this traumatic event. Pray for protection, boldness, and wisdom for Pastor Kamlesh Kumar and his family. Pray for the attackers to know the presence and love of Jesus, a far more powerful force than hate.
7 - Iraq (AINA) - Iraqi police recently arrested Taha Mohamed Salama, an Islamic State military official, in Mosul city. His arrest seems to be part of a larger ISIS bust operation, as local Iraqi troops arrested over 30 Islamic State members in several regions. Despite progress by Iraqi police, the arrests indicate a strong ISIS presence and active threat in the area. Pray wisdom for authorities as they take action against these dangerous forces. Pray for protection for police and discernment throughout the operations. Pray for the thousands of suspects with ties to ISIS who have been arrested – that they will come to know the love and power of Jesus Christ.
8 - Spain - From Dan and And Tice: We have been seeking God in special ways for guidance because we are again approaching the crossroad of the time between three-year terms. We need to seriously re-evaluate where we are, what we are doing, what should we change, what should we continue and what all will God (and our authorities) change for us as we look toward beginning another term.

6 - 8 - 18 items 1-3 www.icommittopray.com/, 4 to 7 info.persecution.org 1 - Saudi Arabia - A man called a Christian TV ministry recently, saying he wanted to become a follower of Christ but was sure he would be killed for leaving Islam. The man told the ministry representative that he believes Islam is full of “lies, deception and racism” and that he sees Christ as someone who is full of love and taught us to love one another. The man is considering moving to another country, where he can safely pursue a relationship with Christ. Pray that the Lord will give this man discernment in deciding whether to stay in the country or leave. Pray that he will obtain his own copy of the Holy Bible and find a Christian community that can help him. 2 - Iran - Hormoz Shariat, president and founder of Iran Alive Ministries, recently lost 90 percent of his vision while speaking at a VOM conference in Virginia. He underwent emergency surgery to repair a detached retina, but his vision has not yet returned. His other retina is also at risk of detaching. Hormoz’s condition could lead him to postpone the scheduled launch of the 412 School of Ministry, which is designed to help strengthen the underground church in Iran. “The Iranian church urgently needs this training school for its leaders,” Iran Alive Ministries stated in a release. “Current events in Iran continue to highlight this urgency.” Hormoz also has numerous speaking engagements scheduled for August. Pray for the full restoration of his eyesight. Pray also that the 412 School of Ministry will be launched on schedule and be successful in strengthening the Iranian church. Pray for Hormoz and his family as well as Iran Alive Ministries as they face these obstacles. 3 - Laos - Under a new law, all religious activity in Laos must be approved by multiple government offices. Approval is rarely, if ever, given. This means the work of VOM-supported front-line workers and other evangelists would be considered illegal. The law is supposed to apply to people of all faiths equally, but many expect it to be enforced only against those outside Buddhism or the country’s other traditional beliefs. The law is concerning because it would stop much of the work of front-line workers, which takes place outside their immediate home areas: visiting believers, conducting a funeral or praying for the sick. Pray that traveling evangelists will maintain their bold faith and renew their commitment to building God’s kingdom. And pray that the gospel will continue to flourish in Laos despite attempts to contain it. 4 - India (Sight Magazine) - According to Christian Solidarity Worldwide, false charges were made against four individuals arrested on May 29 with the specific intention of disrupting a scheduled marriage on May 30. Villagers summoned the pastor and asserted false charges of forced conversions against the couple, the pastor, and his assistant. At the time of writing, the four are currently being held in prison. Pray for those imprisoned to know God's peace and forgive their persecutors. Pray for authorities and others imprisoned to know that God surrounds those who are treated unfairly. Pray for God's justice to reign, for false charges to be dropped, and the unjust legislation to be repealed. 5 - Japan (Japan Times) - As part of the ongoing efforts by Chinese authorities to crack down on missionary work, 21 Japanese citizens were detained from various locations. Only five had returned to Japan by May 25. China also confined 19 Japanese nationals affiliated with a Christian group in November of last year. Pray for those experiencing harassment to have God's peace and assurance of His protection until they are released. Pray for missionary activities in China to be hidden from those who would contend with God's work. Pray for the salvation of government officials and authorities in China. 6 - Iran (Iran HRM) - Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, Yasser Mossayebzadeh, Saheb Fadaie, and Mohammad Reza Omidi appeared before Revolutionary Court last year to appeal their sentences for charges of "acting against national security, promoting Zionist Christianity and running house churches." The court upheld the sentences and all four may be summoned to prison at any time. Pray for justice to be established where false charges have been presented with no evidence. Pray for these men to know the protection, peace, and boldness of God at all times. Pray for opportunities to share the love of God and open hearts for those in their paths. 7 - Pakistan (The Express Tribune) - A recent report compiled by the U.S. Department of State revealed that, in 2017, extremist groups targeted houses of worship, religious gatherings, leaders and individuals resulting in at least 112 persons killed in Pakistan. Several major human rights violations and violent incidents were featured. Pray for boldness and protection for Christians, minorities, civil societies, and human rights activists in Pakistan. Pray for government officials as they discuss the misuse of blasphemy laws. Pray for God's Kingdom to be established in all decisions regarding religious freedom. In prison: Asia Bibi (Pakistan), Andrew Brunson (Turkey), Gao Zhisheng (China)

items 1-3 www.icommittopray.com/, 4 to 7 info.persecution.org1 - India - On Sunday, April 29, about 25 police officers and Hindu activists burst into a church service and arrested eight Christians, accusing them of forcing Hindus to convert to Christianity. While five of the believers were soon released, three Christians from the same family — Subash; his wife, Sarah; and her sister, Lydia — were detained for weeks until finally being granted bail recently. Subash and his wife have ministered in their village for years. According to a VOM worker, a Hindu group called Hindu Vidhinyay Parishad (HVP) is believed to be behind the arrests. The HVP is a legal group associated with the nationalist Hindutva movement. Pray that the case against these three believers will be dismissed.
2 - Nigeria - Leah Sharibu remains in captivity almost four months after Boko Haram kidnapped her and 109 other school girls on Feb. 19 from the Government Girls Science and Technical College in Yobe state. Most of the girls were returned about four weeks after the kidnapping, but five were reportedly killed and Leah is still being held. She is believed to be the only Christian among those kidnapped. One of the released girls said Leah hasn’t been released because she refuses to deny Jesus. Pray that Leah will remain strong in faith and experience Christ’s presence during her captivity. Also pray that she will be released soon and that her mother will be encouraged and strengthened during this ordeal. Pray that members of Boko Haram will be inspired by Leah’s faith and seek to know the God she serves.
3 - Syria - Five years ago, Ziyad, who grew up in the Druze religion, placed his faith in Jesus Christ. Since then, he has experienced persecution in a variety of forms. Following his conversion, his family immediately kicked him out of their home. He has been beaten, imprisoned and even kidnapped for his evangelism. And he has been slandered on social media for his Christian faith. Pray for Ziyad as he continues to share the gospel with Muslims and Druze. Pray for his wisdom and discernment as he continues to grow in faith, and pray that he will find a source of income to help pay for housing, food, transportation and other expenses.
4- Nepal (Mission Network News) - Tensions are growing in Nepal as groups aim to create restrictions for Christians practicing their faith. Most of the pressure is coming from nationalists trying to limit religious freedom. Churches have been burned, Christians have received death threats, and lobbyists are working to push laws relating to anti-conversion. Pray for protection for Christians living in Nepal as they practice their faith. Pray for all unjust and restrictive laws presented to be overturned. Pray for authorities to remember how the Church has intervened in human trafficking and provided aid through relief ministries.
5 - Pakistan (Morning Star News) - Three police officers forced their way into a courtyard, stating that they were there to recover narcotics. The three were notorious for blackmailing poor people in the area. After a heated argument, the cops chased the youth in the family out the door and mercilessly beat one of the young men, Waqas Masih, to death. Pray for Masih’s family to be comforted by God's peace and for them to be able to forgive the attackers. Pray for justice to be served so that these officers will be held accountable for their actions. Pray for safety for Christians who worship in Pakistan.
6 - Iraq (Crux) - Christians beginning to settle in desolated areas of Iraq are finding support through private donors, but experts on the ground warn that returning could result in difficulties and even death. The conflict over the territory could erupt anytime, as the Islamic State has proven to retread and return to devastate areas. Pray for accurate reporting of area conditions and for Christians to be wise in their decisions. Pray for protection for Christians at the convents in Bashiqa, Teleskuf, and Qaraqosh that have been rebuilt. Pray for the responses of those deploying resources and political influence.
7 - Morocco (VOA) - In Morocco, Islam is the primary religion and courts govern personal status matters, including burial and inheritance. Although Christians want to be treated equally as Moroccan citizens, today only foreign Christians are allowed to meet and worship together. Evangelism is considered a crime leading to possible prison time. Pray for authorities to show favor to Christian citizens. Pray for those who oppose Christianity to see that the Spirit of God is with believers. Pray for boldness, protection, and discernment for Christians in Morocco as they practice their faith.

6 - 23 - 18 1 - Bangladesh - A group of Muslims are demanding that police arrest a pastor, after he and other believers spoke to authorities about the construction of an Islamist school next door to their church. Members of the church, most of whom are Christian converts from Islam, became alarmed when they learned about the new construction because they realize how offended Muslims are by those who leave Islam for Christianity. “Their intention is clearly to intimidate our church,” a church leader said. After church members informed police of their concerns, the Muslims began protesting and demanding that police arrest the pastor. Pray for these believers and for the safety of the church.
2 - Central African Republic - When the leader of the Seleka Muslim rebel coalition resigned from power in January 2014 at the height of the civil war, riots broke out across the capital city of Bangui. During the riots, which included violent attacks on Christians, a Muslim mob destroyed Pastor Sylvain Boynguiza’s home and church, located just 650 feet from the city’s central mosque. Worshipers fled the church that Sunday morning as they began to hear gunfire in their neighborhood, and many were shot as they tried to escape the attack. The rebels set fire to the church and destroyed the homes of many Christians, including that of Pastor Sylvain. Pray that Pastor Sylvain and his congregation will be peacemakers in their community.
3 - India - About 150 Hindu radicals attacked four Christian families who had gathered for worship in a believer’s home, beating the Christians severely, destroying musical instruments and damaging the home. Following the attack, the Christians were summoned to a community meeting, where they were asked to abandon their Christian faith. When they declared that they would never give up their faith, they were again beaten and verbally abused. Community leaders warned the Christians that if they refused to re-convert to Hinduism, they would face severe consequences. Pray that these Christians will remain strong in faith and be able to stay in their home village. Also pray that God will supply their needs, as most are poor farmers with many financial needs as a result of this attack.
4 - India (UCAN) - Leading up to the 2019 national elections, Christians and other religious minorities have expressed fear that there will be a wave of religiously motivated violence. Their fears are justified, as the current BJP-led government has admitted that they will make the issue of religion central in the lead-up to the elections. Pray for protection and discernment for Christians in India as the elections approach and that God’s wisdom will triumph over any plans of the enemy to influence the election. Pray for God’s will to reign over India in the next chapter of leadership.
5 - Iraq (Crux) - Not far from the border, the city of Shaqlawa stands as a memorial of anti-Christian aggression present in a city where diverse groups once lived together. Today, there are no Jewish families left and Christians are no longer able to operate stores or businesses. Many Muslims in the area maintain the same ideology as ISIS. Pray for God’s presence to restore peaceful relationships between Christians and Muslims in the area. Pray for opportunities for Christians to show the love of Christ to those who have hatred toward Christians, & for jobs to be restored to those who have experienced loss.
6 - Central Asia (ICC) - Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan are rarely discussed as countries of importance in light of persecution. These countries are often overlooked, but they engage in “systematic, ongoing…violations of religious freedom.” Such behavior includes “torture…abduction…detention” to name a few. Pray for international awareness of the abuse of human rights in these countries. Pray for developed nations to embrace and support those who are suffering in persecuted countries. Pray for pressure against religious laws that prevent fellowship and worship.
7 - Nigeria (World Watch Monitor) - On June 6, nine people were killed, several were injured, and others are still missing from a suspected attack by Fulani herdsmen in Guma and Logo. At least 492 people were killed from January to May this year. Pray for comfort and peace for families that have lost loved ones, and for them to forgive their attackers. Pray for the Nigerian government to formulate strategies to protect Christians in the area. Pray for restoration of property, homes, and means of sustenance.

6 - 30 - 18 1 - India - On May 29, four Christians in Jharkhand were arrested and charged with forcibly converting people to Christianity. A group of villagers who follow a traditional animist religion told police that Pastor Sudarshan, Sumanti, Rupash and Neelam beat a man with a bamboo stick because he refused to convert to Christianity. In addition, two of the believers, Sumanti and Rupash, were to be married the next day, and the villagers did not want their Christian wedding to take place in the village. Pray that these believers remain strong in faith despite the false accusations against them. Pray that they continue to be a light for Christ while in jail and in their village. Pray also that Sumanti and Rupash will be able to reschedule their wedding, and pray for their marriage. Pray that those who oppose them will come to know how much God loves them. 2 - Nigeria - On May 28, 17 members of Boko Haram surrendered to the Nigerian military after President Muhammadu Buhari offered amnesty to any fighters willing to turn in their weapons and seek peace. Those who surrendered said they had been forced to join Boko Haram after their town was raided four years ago. The men also said they realize the group is “serving the course of the devil” and ask for forgiveness for the pain they have inflicted on others. Pray that these men will surrender to Jesus and be overwhelmed by his mercy and grace. Pray that many more fighters will surrender their weapons and seek peace. Pray that the millions of Nigerians who have been harmed by Boko Haram will receive God’s peace and that Christians in the north will continue to share God’s love.
3 - China - Pastor Liang Ziliang and several other church members in Heshan, Guangdong, were distributing Christian brochures and carrying anti-abortion banners in a local park when police began to photograph them. That night, Liang and his wife, Li Yinxiu, were called to the police station and detained on arrival. Following their arrest, police searched their home without a warrant. Their family later received two criminal detention notices accusing Liang and Li of violating Article 80 of China’s criminal law and organizing and supporting illegal gatherings. They are currently being held at the Heshan Municipal Detention Center. Members of the couple’s house church are very concerned about their arrests. Pray that Liang and Li will grow stronger in faith and feel God’s presence in jail. Pray that they will be released soon and be able to continue sharing the gospel and God’s love for the unborn. Pray that their house church members will remain committed to the gospel despite their anxiety.
4 - Philippines (UCA News) - During a technology summit, the president of the Philippines questioned the logic of the Biblical creation story and lashed out in insults against God. The president has been at odds with church leaders and Bishop Arturo Bastes reported that the president's statements and recent actions have become “intolerable.” Pray for Christian leaders in the Philippines to turn to God in this difficult time. Pray for the salvation of President Duterte and for the Holy Spirit to bring conviction and truth to his heart. Pray for reconciliation between the administration and Christian leadership.
5 - Nigeria (CAJ News) - Following reports of the Islamic State sending its members to train Boko Haram, Nigeria is on high alert. Armed forces in Nigeria assured Nigerians that they were prepared to defend the country and its citizens. The Nigerian military has been battling an insurgency in the nation since 2009. Pray for citizens to turn to the Lord in this hour and to have boldness instead of fear as they face these threats. Pray for salvation for those in authority and in the military. Pray for the military to have wisdom as they protect the citizens of Nigeria.
6 - Turkey (al-Monitor) - With a majority vote, Erdogan will now appoint the next government. Turkey's new system diminishes the authority of parliament and much oversight of the executive branch, increasing Erdogan’s power in the legal system. The president will appoint judges, set the budget, and can issue decrees as laws. Pray for wisdom for President Erdogan as he leads a new form of government and seeks to strengthen the economy. Pray for salvation among those in authority and the military in Turkey. Pray for encouragement and salvation for the citizens of Turkey.
7 - India (TIME) - While putting on a play about human trafficking, five women were abducted and gang-raped. India has seen several horrific sexual assault cases in the last year and reported rape cases have risen 60% to 40,000 in 2016. The women served with an NGO supported by Christian missionaries. Pray for wisdom and protection for women in India as they are surrounded by such threats. Pray for healing for individuals who have experienced the trauma of rape. Pray for salvation for those committing crimes against women and children.

7 - 13 - 18 1 - Uganda - Yassin, a former imam, and his wife became Christians two years ago after Yassin’s wife was healed from a serious illness during a church service. When Yassin told his mother of their conversion to Christianity, they and their six children immediately began to face persecution. Other family members burned Yassin’s house down and sold a plot of land that his father had given him. Their pastor arranged for half of the family to sleep at the church while the other half slept at a small house. The family has lived this way for two years. Pray that Yassin’s family will stop persecuting him and that they will be reconciled. Pray for his family’s health, including his wife’s continued healing. Pray that the couple will be able to earn enough money to support their family and that they will find a place where they can live together.
2 - Gaza Strip - After hearing a university professor mention the name of Jesus four years ago, Mohammed began to seek information about Christianity online, eventually connecting with a group of Christians. His new interest in Jesus soon led to conflict with family members. When his sister saw him watching a Christian TV program, she reported him to their father, who then restricted Mohammed’s access to the Internet and social media for the next year. When Mohammed graduated from college, his father again granted him Internet privileges, assuming his Christian “phase” was over. But instead, Mohammed met a pastor online who was willing to teach him, and he began reading the Bible on his own. One day, Mohammed told his family that Islam was a false religion and that they should follow Jesus Christ. His family attacked him, kicked him out of the house and eventually told him he was no longer part of the family. Despite the pain and loneliness, Mohammed continued to grow in faith. “It is true that I am deprived of the grace of the family,” he said, “but I am not deprived of the Lord’s grace.” Pray that Mohammed will remain faithful and that the Lord will supply his needs.
3 - India - Hindu activists burned Pastor Chaitu Baiga’s home in the middle of the night, leaving his family homeless. Pastor Chaitu, who was born into a Hindu family, came to know Christ in 2010 and completed Bible training before becoming a pastor. When Hindu activists learned of his effective evangelistic work — he currently leads three congregations in three villages — they began harassing him and attacking him physically. Then, on April 10, 2018, the Hindu activists burned the pastor’s home down while he, his wife and their three children were away at an all-night prayer meeting. “I and my family are going through the toughest time of our lives right now,” he said. Pray for the safety and strength of Pastor Chaitu and his family, and pray that they will soon be able to move into a new home.
4 - India (ICC) - Ram Kumar Gautam has led weekly prayer meetings for the last five years. On July 2, Hindu radicals stormed in and used wood lathies and sticks to beat the Christians, also firing a gun to frighten them. Twenty Christians were seriously injured and property was damaged, including musical instruments and chairs. Pray for comfort and healing for those affected and the restoration of property. Pray for boldness and peace among the attacked Christians, and for them to be able to demonstrate Christ's love by forgiving their attackers. Pray that false charges that were later filed against the Christians will be overturned.
5 - Greece (Christian Post) - A small group of Christians holding a Bible study was brutally attacked at the Koutsochero Refugee Camp in Greece. They were threatened with knives, beaten, and told to leave the camp. The Christian converts had crossed from Turkey into Greece and were under the scrutiny of the Muslim majority. Pray for God's comfort among those who were attacked. Pray that they will demonstrate the power of God’s love by forgiving and praying for their attackers. Pray for protection and God's presence to surround all Christian converts who live among radical Muslims.
6 - Egypt (Gatestone Institute) - Moderate Muslims opposed to Islamic extremism are asking questions of their governments who refuse to protect religious minorities. The violence directed against Coptic Christians has made many Muslims, including a writer for Gatestone, reflect on the crimes against humanity perpetrated under the banner of Islam. Pray for moderate Muslims to advocate for protecting the rights and dignity of religious minorities. Pray for peace between Christians and Muslims and for the truth of Christ to be known. Pray for Jesus to reveal His power and forgiveness through Christians' love and service toward those who persecute them.
7 - Nigeria (ICC) - Multiple churches, buildings and homes were targeted in recent attacks in the Nigerian villages of Xland, Gindin Akwati, Ruku, Nghar, Kura Falls, Kakuruk, Rakok, Kok and Razat. Thousands of people were uprooted from their homes, have no access to their farms, and had to abandon their livelihoods. Pray for comfort and restoration for the communities that have lost family, churches, and property. Pray for the Buhari regime to bring justice for those involved in the attacks. Pray for the Nigerian government to have God's wisdom in finding ways to protect citizens’ lives and property.
8 - Turkey (ACLJ) - In just days, innocent American Pastor Andrew Brunson’s sham of a trial continues.

7 - 21 - 18 1 - China - Authorities raided a small house church in China’s southern Guangdong province during a service on June 14, detaining Pastor Huang Xiaoning and three church members. As Huang delivered his sermon, local police broke into Bible Reformed Church in Guangzhou, Guangdong, and demanded that he stop the service. Huang stated that the church had not violated any laws. Authorities videotaped and photographed church members before detaining Huang, a Christian named Wang Chuanjun, and two others working in the church’s kitchen. Once in custody, they were interrogated for hours before being released that night. According to one Christian woman, the church has been harassed many times before. Pray that the church will remain united and continue to meet despite persecution. Pray that non-believers in the community will come to know the truths of the Scriptures worth suffering for.7 - 21 - 18
2 - Azerbaijan - Life is difficult in Central Asia for believers simply trying to support their families. A believer in Azerbaijan intended to purchase some land for a small business. However, he did not want to pay the usual bribe to the mayor. After spending a month in prayer ahead of the purchase, he went to the mayor’s office with his request. The staff there accused him of being a Satanist, and he was jailed for 15 days. After he was released, the Christian went back to the office with his request. The mayor’s office agreed to the sale, but without any official paperwork. That meant the believer would not really be in control of the land, and his shop could be torn down at any time. After consulting with Christian leaders, the believer decided it would be best to purchase land and establish the business in the next town over, where land is more expensive, but where he is less known as a Christian. He’ll be able to do this legally and with proper documentation. Pray this man will not be discouraged amid all these challenges and that his testimony will plant seeds in the lives of others.
3 - West Africa - The wife of a pastor who had to flee his hometown because of death threats is still experiencing significant trauma. Pastor Trevor and his wife, Clarice, worked in the north of their country pastoring a church until Islamists overtook the area. Nearly all Christians in the area were forced to flee after the militants vowed to kill those who didn’t leave, and then went door to door looting and burning Christian homes. The couple decided to resettle near the capital city with other displaced people from the north so they could continue their ministry. They now have a church and an attached home near the main road. Clarice cannot sleep at night and continues to experience immobilizing anxiety daily. Pastor Trevor has a bounty on his head, issued by the Islamists. The risks are real, but Trevor wants to continue ministering to his people. Pray for peace and restoration for Clarice. Pray also for VOM workers who are helping the couple to find the best solution.
4 - Iraq (Iraqi News) - An Islamic State fighter has been sentenced to death for killing civilians and carrying out bombings in Mosul. The convict admitted to initiating the execution of captives and planting explosives. The Iraqi courts have sentenced tens of Islamic State members to death for association with the group. Pray for salvation and the truth of Christ to be revealed to those involved with the Islamic State. Praise God for justice extended on behalf of Christians and innocent civilians. Pray for healing and restoration for those who have experienced loss and trauma through the actions of ISIS.
5 - Egypt (Wataninet) - The police have charged more than 90 Muslims with mobbing, attacking Copts' homes, instigating defiance and sedition, and assaulting police. Earlier in July, a mob of Muslim villagers attacked several houses in response to a complaint accusing a man of contempt for Islam. Praise God for His intervention and justice on behalf of the Christians who were attacked. Pray for protection for authorities, Christians, and the families affected. Pray for restoration of property and healing for those who have suffered loss.
6 - India (ICC) - From July 2 through July 15, Christians were assaulted in churches, boycotted socially, attacked, and falsely accused in an onslaught of targeted actions by mobs and Hindu radicals throughout India. Yet, these displays of anti-Christian sentiment remain largely unchecked by authorities. Pray for protection and healing for Christians throughout India and peace between Christians and unbelievers in the region. Pray for the violence to end and for those responsible for the attacks to be held accountable. Pray for the salvation of Hindu radicals and those in positions of authority.
7 - Philippines (UCA News) - Rhee Timbang, the Philippine Independent Church's supreme bishop, told UCA News that death threats and harassment are actions that the government is perpetrating against priests. Pray for boldness and protection for Christians, especially leaders serving the Church. Pray for the Lord's intervention in matters of justice and in the lives of the poor. Pray for salvation for those in the Philippines, especially those serving in the military and government.

7 - 27 - 18
1 - Kenya - Local police diffused a bomb placed in an evangelical church in eastern Kenya. Pastor Galgallo noticed a strange item in his Evangelical Victory Church in Merti before the start of the morning service on May 12. He immediately took a photo and reported it to the police. The police called bomb experts from the Kenyan army, who were able to diffuse the bomb after several hours. They determined the bomb had been placed there the night before by a local terrorist group. In February of this year, police in the area discovered a truck from Somalia filled with weapons and explosives intended for an unknown target. Thank God that the pastor noticed the bomb and that it did not go off. Pray for the believers in this area.
2- India - A group of Christians who have been in prison since May 29 were released in July. Sudarshan, Sumanti, Rupash and Neelam were arrested under the state of Jharkhand’s anti-conversion laws. Villagers accused the four of beating Sumanti’s father with a bamboo stick because he refused to convert to Christianity. Sumanti and Rupash were to be married on May 30, and the villagers did not want their Christian wedding to take place in the village. Praise God they were released. Pray for them as they return to their communities.
3 - Turkey - Following a June election, the president issued several decrees that will affect Christians in Turkey. According to a Turkish pastor, meetings in homes are now illegal. Though the law may be intended to hinder Islamic sectarian meetings, it will definitely hinder Christians meetings as well. Some churches also have police stationed outside during meetings — ostensibly to provide security — however, what happens is that some people are deterred from attending. “People are more fearful,” the pastor said. Pray the Holy Spirit can help people overcome their fear so they may step into new light. Pray for all those in ministry in Turkey.
4 - Indonesia (ICC) - On July 24, Martinus Gulo was sentenced to four years in prison and a fine of 1 billion Rupiah (approximately 68,914 USD) for religious defamation. The young Christian was found guilty of blasphemy due to a Facebook post that insulted the prophet Muhammad under the country’s controversial Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE) law. Pray for Gulo to be released from prison soon and for his hefty fine to be dropped. Pray for Indonesia to repeal or drastically reform its blasphemy laws which can lead to significant prison time. Pray for Gulo to shine the light of Christ to other prisoners and guards during his time in prison.
5 - India (UCAN) - A Christian leader in India has called on Prime Minister Modi to stop the harassment of Christians in the state of Jharkhand. Recently, the Jharkhand government ordered a probe into the funding of more than 80 organizations, exclusively Christian. Specifically, the probe is looking into the accusation that these organizations are using the funding for religious conversions. Praise God that leaders in India are calling attention to the religious persecution plaguing the nation. Pray for this attention to encourage other leaders to speak up on behalf of minority Christians. Pray for the protection of Christians facing violence and discrimination in India.
6 - Egypt (WWM) - Seven years ago, security officials closed a church in the community of Kom el-Loufy, citing security reasons. This week, the church was finally able to hold its first service. The Christian community had to withdraw their compliant against arson, which was committed by local Islamic extremists, in order to get permission to open the church. Pray for protection for this community of believers as they face threats from the surrounding Muslim community. Pray for opportunities for this church to reach out into their community and share the love of Christ. Pray for God to bless the members of this church as they endure persecution.
7 - Turkey (ICC) - Turkey has ordered American pastor Andrew Brunson to be transferred from prison to house arrest. He is banned from leaving the country, and his next hearing is scheduled for October 12, 2018. Pastor Brunson faces a falsified indictment of having links with the Fethullahist Terror Organization (FETÖ) and the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), among other charges. Pray for full physical healing of Pastor Brunson, as he is reportedly facing health concerns. Pray for the Turkish government to drop Pastor Brunson’s charges and release him from house arrest. Pray for strength and encouragement as Pastor Brunson recovers from his time in prison.

8 - 3 - 18 1 - Central African Republic - Almost five years after being forced to abandon their home in the Central African Republic’s capital, Bangui, a pastor and his family are still unable to return. Pastor Panhoue Fidele Pamphile, who had served in Bangui since 1990, was forced to flee with his family in 2013 after angry Muslims began to intimidate his congregation and disrupt services. They wanted to build a mosque nearby but did not want it next to a church. Then, in December 2013, a group of Muslims armed with machetes surrounded the pastor’s house, and he could hear them discussing whether to kill him or just destroy the church. After the group left, Pastor Panhoue and his family grabbed what they could and fled. Days later, he learned that both his house and the church had been destroyed. Pastor Panhoue and his family have not been able to return to the neighborhood or visit their destroyed home, as Muslims have since driven out the entire Christian community. Pray that the pastor and his family will be able to return to their home.
2 - China - On July 15, local authorities entered the Bible Reformed Church in Guangzhou, Guangdong, for the third time in a month. As in previous raids, the officials detained and interrogated the pastor and several others. According to Pastor Huang Xiaoning, about 30 government officials entered the church during a service, told the Christians to stop gathering and required everyone to show their ID cards. They then took Pastor Huang and at least five others for interrogation, which lasted for hours. In June, the church was raided twice and fined 50,000 yuan (about $7,500) for holding religious activities in an unregistered building. The church has been pressured to join the government-sanctioned Three-Self Patriotic Movement for the past eight years, but the church has resisted. Pastor Huang said the church will appeal the charges “in order to become witnesses on God’s behalf.” Pray for justice and that they will be a strong witness for Christ.
3 - Uzbekistan - Police in Urgench, Uzbekistan, broke into Saidjon Urazov’s apartment recently and warned him to stop participating in illegal Christian meetings (evangelical churches are denied registration in Uzbekistan). In addition, they presented a document forbidding him from keeping religious literature in his home or teaching religious doctrine. Saidjon refused to sign the document. In July 2017, police with automatic weapons raided the church Saidjon attends, detaining and searching everyone present.
4 - Iran (Iran HRM) - Plainclothes agents raided the home of Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani in Iran. Security forces broke down the door, beat the pastor with an electric shocker, and arrested him before his wife and child. Nadarkhani and other individuals affiliated with The Church of Iran were sentenced in Tehran on June 24. Pray for healing and provision for those who have suffered the loss of loved ones. Pray for the presence of God to surround Christians who are imprisoned, which authorities and other prisoners will recognize. Pray for these Christians to forgive their persecutors and for the persecutors to come to know Christ.
5 - Egypt (The Tablet) - Because of the lack of a head covering, Christian women in Egypt are often treated disgracefully. Sexual harassment is an epidemic in Egypt as many men view women who don’t cover their hair as unbelievers. This means that the many Muslim men feel that they have the right to harass, manipulate, and abuse such women. Pray for protection for women in Egypt and for the presence of God to surround them. Pray for Christian men to rise up and protect women when they are sexually harassed. Pray for these men who are guilty of sexual harassment to come to salvation.
6 - Iraq (al-Jazeera) - Recently, three gunmen shot their way into the governorate building, wounding one guard and taking a hostage. The mayor of Erbil has suggested that ISIS is responsible for the attack, although no official statement has been made. The motivation behind the attack was not immediately clear. Pray for protection and healing following the trauma that these citizens experienced. Pray for government leaders and authorities to have the discernment necessary to create stability in the government. Pray for the salvation of Islamic extremists and for God's peace to reign throughout Iraq.
7 - China (Channel News Asia) - Wang Quanzhang disappeared in a police sweep and has been charged with "subversion of state power." Authorities blocked visitors, but details have emerged after his wife was recently able to visit. She reported that the jailers have been giving her husband blood pressure medication even though he had no previous history of the disease. Pray for Wang's healing for any physical problems, especially intervention for potential side effects from the medication. Pray for salvation for the jailers as they feel the presence of God in the jail cell. Pray that Wang will have opportunities to share the love of Christ.

1 - Bangladesh - Thirty families turned back to Islam after facing intense community pressure, said local church planter Sujen, who became a believer through a Bible correspondence course several years ago. After becoming convinced Jesus was the Way, the Truth and the Life, he began gradually sharing with others in his community. Though his parents rejected him, Sujen went on to lead all his brothers and their spouses to Christ. Over time, he baptized almost 100 families in four villages. “In the beginning I never faced any problems,” he said. Last year, however, a wealthy Muslim patron hired a thug to go around intimidating the new Christians. Several lost jobs. Those who had small businesses found no one would buy from them. Eventually, a group of 30 families were taken to the mosque and asked to reconvert to Islam, and they gave in. Pray for the families who have turned back to Islam that they repent and become truly committed to Christ. Pray for the Holy Spirit’s work in their community and that Sujen will not become discouraged.
2 - Uganda - Mary Lusabe was the promiscuous daughter of a Muslim businessman before she met Christ. Mary had two children by different men and was pregnant with a third child by another man when she began having health problems. Her mother, though a Muslim, advised her to ask the Christians for prayer. Their prayers cleared up her health problems, and Mary started attending church. Muslim leaders in her village accused Mary of being a Christian, and she could not deny it. As a result, her mother threw Mary and her three children out of the house. An older couple in the church took her in and have cared for her for the last three years. Mary asks for prayer that she will be strengthened in the Lord and that her family will come to Christ, especially her mom and dad.
3 - Eritrea - Eritrean believers inside and outside the country are cautiously hopeful a new peace deal between Ethiopia and Eritrea will end decades of animosity and promote greater freedom within Eritrea. “All our family in Eritrea are holding their breath with high expectation, hope and prayer,” wrote a VOM contact. On Monday, July 16, the first airline flight between the two countries in many years took place. One prison has been reportedly shut down, and a few Christian prisoners were released along with many political prisoners. “We are so excited to see what’s next,” wrote the VOM contact. However, concerns remain. The VOM contact asked for prayer that false theology does not gain influence and that the church remains solidly focused on Jesus. Many other believers, especially long-time leaders, remain in prison.
4 - Iraq (HRW) - While Iraq's judges have been charging suspects, cases involving the Yezidis, personal crimes, and the investigation of ISIS's crime sites are being overlooked. There are at least 40 mass graves that have been identified, but only three sites reveal that analysis has been attempted. Pray for healing and restoration of the Yezidis, and for them to forgive their enemies. Pray for justice for ISIS victims, wisdom during trials, and protection of evidence and that God's discernment will be granted to authorities involved in prosecuting these crimes.
5 - South Sudan (Whisper Eye) - Since the beginning of the political conflict in Sudan, millions of people have been displaced. The Moyo district hosts 180,000 South Sudanese refugees at the Palorinya resettlement camp. Warring sides have signed a preliminary power-sharing agreement, aimed at ending the civil war. Pray for peace to be restored in South Sudan and other war-torn areas. Pray for God's peace, healing, and restoration for those who have been displaced. Pray for God's wisdom to influence all decisions affecting South Sudan's government and citizens.
6 - India (ICC) - Christians living among Hindu radicals in Uttar Pradesh recently experienced false criminal complaints, social boycotts, disrupted worship services, and brutal beatings. In one case, a pastor's son was brought to an intensive care unit for injuries sustained after being beaten with bricks. Pray for healing for Pastor Samuel's son, Abhinav, who was hospitalized. Pray for protection and restoration for Christians in India, that faith would triumph over fear. Pray for God to send wisdom and methods to prevent attacks and counter the intolerance with His love and grace.
7 - Uganda (Christian Telegraph) - Twelve-year-old Musitafa Waguti, 10-year-old Amuza Gess, and seven-year-old Shakira Nabukwasi were abducted in December 2015 near their home. The children escaped on May 5, after hearing that they may be taken outside Uganda. An uncle found them wandering in the streets of his village. Praise God for providing the children with a way to escape. Pray for the presence of Christ to bring physical and emotional healing for the children's hearts and minds. Pray for the family to forgive the abductors and for the salvation of those who kidnapped them.
8 - Costa Rica - Brother Bob Perez, missionary to Costa Rica wrote that this past summer was dedicated to church construction, evangelistic outreaches, and training of pastors to build healthy churches. However, as summer came to a close, when they went to the U.S. his wife Michele, who had been treated for a medical problem, had a horrendous reaction to a medication not used in the United States. With no stateside primary care physician, nor a local understanding of the medication, things deteriorated leading to emergency room visits. She continues to recover from that incident. Please pray for Michele’s full recovery, as well as the entire family’s spiritual, physical, and mental health. Also pray for sufficient finances to sustain their budget over the next 12 months and for cultural sensitivity in brother Bob's leadership role in revitalizing churches across Costa Rica.
