Too bad JO is going back to Florida. Seems they improved a bit with him there, but it seems it would take more than half a year to get this team out of it's defensive and offensive hole. Did he have a problem with Mozielak as I've read? Now they're looking for another batting coach? Without Oquendo, the Cardinals will likely regress on defense and base running in 2019. Back to 2016-2017 caliber play? This is the Cardinals' first offseason with Shildt as manager. Decisions will have to be made including selecting the right coaches to coach players to play baseball. The Cardinals will need a legitimate hitting coach, one who actually coaches hitting balls with bats for base hits and runs batted in. The next hitting coach will be a reversal from John Mabry.

The Cardinals will need to shake up the roster for the 2019 season. There are younger players who play better baseball than some team members who are holding roster spots. Mike Girsch should be ready to made trades and big free agent signings.

Losers have helped the Cardinals claim losers off waivers. The San Diego Padres claimed Greg García. The Cincinnati Reds claimed Matt Bowman.
If someone can claim John Mozeliak and Dexter Fowler, the Cardinals will be in better shape.

The Cardinals and Diamondbacks have announced that first baseman Paul Goldschmidt has been traded from Arizona to St. Louis in exchange for right-hander Luke Weaver, catcher Carson Kelly, minor league infielder Andy Young and a Competitive Balance Round B selection in next year’s draft.

Good riddance, Luke Weaver. Bad pitching earns a "get the hell out of St. Louis". For others remaining who cannot pitch (i.e. Brett Cecil), get with the program, or get the hell out.
I know many would like to see Dexter Fowler get the hell out of St. Louis.
Paul Goldschmidt hits balls with bats for base hits and runs batted in. The Cardinals have needed more players like Goldschmidt for years.

I couldn't believe Dewitt compared Matt Carpenter to the great First Base players the Cards had -- Musial, Mize, White, Pujols others -- in his press conference for Goldschmidt. "The Cardinals have had some impressive first basemen over the years: Johnny Mize, Stan Musial, Bill White, Orlando Cepeda, Mark McGwire, Keith Hernandez, Albert Pujols and, of course, most recently, Matt Carpenter," Cardinals chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. said to open Goldschmidt's introductory press conference on Friday. "Paul is a perfect fit for our club." Jennifer Langosch -- www.mlb.com/news/cardinals-introduce-paul-goldschmidt/c-301564678Seems their attempt to sell/shop Carpenter has gone overboard -- or else they really think he's good?

The Cardinals traded Patrick Wisdom to the Rangers for reserve infielder Drew Robinson. Robinson is a left handed hitter. He struck out too much while with the Rangers.

ESPN reports tonight: Cardinals draft pick Griffin Roberts has been suspended 50 games after testing positive for a drug of abuse. Roberts is a right-handed reliever who was selected 43rd overall out of Wake Forest this year. He pitched for Class A Palm Beach after signing for $1,664,200 and had been expected to move quickly through the minor leagues. This was Roberts' second violation for a drug of abuse, and he will not be paid during the suspension.
Looks like the Cardinals have used a high draft pick on a real winner.

The Cardinals have signed lefthanded relief pitcher Andrew Miller to a 2 year, $25 million, guaranteed contract. Let's hope Miller turns out different from other relief pitchers the Cardinals have signed as free agents the last couple of years.

This news is posted on the MLB Trade Rumors website: President of baseball operations John Mozeliak provided injury updates on two key Cardinals during a Saturday chat with Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Outfielder Marcell Ozuna, who was bothered all season by a nagging shoulder injury that ultimately required surgery, hasn’t yet begun throwing, and the club “isn’t sure” if he’s taken hacks in the cage, either. Ozuna has spurned treatment at the club’s spring facility in favor of offseason rehab in his native Dominican Republic, which Mozeliak deemed “not ideal,” but the 28-year-old outfielder, who heavily regressed toward his established mean last season after a breakout 2017, has expressed no reservations about his outlook for the upcoming season. Reliever Luke Gregerson, who was limited to just 12 1/3 IP last season after a shoulder injury of his own, “hasn’t felt right” in offseason workouts, and the club isn’t anticipating much from him in Spring Training. The soon-to-be 35-year-old Gregerson has endured one of the game’s heaviest reliever workloads since debuting in 2009, accruing a staggering 611 IP over that span, and appearing in an MLB-high 623 games from 2009-17.
*This news indicates that the Cardinals may not be able to rely on Ozuna, at least during the early part of the season, when games DO COUNT as much as they do in September.
*Gregerson is turning into another free agent bust.

So far, there is major disappointment that Carlos did not prepare himself for Spring Training.
