I just want to say "hi" and bump this thread up. I've got some other things top of mind right now that make it difficult write much more here at this time, and aren't really relevant to this type of discussion.

We can count on Geezer for a good chuckle!
I continue to check this forum on the off-chance that Tru and others will return.

Tru (NAPA CA) Claudie has asked me to ask you to return to the Triad Chat.
"...please tell Tru to come back and visit...and keep visiting!"
I miss you here, wish you'd return here, too. Doesn't have to be every day. 😢

After my previous experience with the online curbside pick-up order from the local (higher end) store that runs their own service instead of using Instacart, I was asked if I'd do it again. I did, this week. I usually check their weekly ad, since although their regular prices tend to be on the higher side, they have good sales. And it is a store (different branch but same local chain) that my young(er) friends who've been helping me shop at. So if there's enough I want I can ask them to get it for me. This time they had ice cream on BOGO and they offered to waive the service fee on an order before the end of July, so I figured, why not try doing it myself again and not bother T and Y. Again there were some issues, but they took care of them easily and happily (for me).
The big one was my own fault. Their sales run Thursday through Wednesday and I started planning my order last weekend. But then I temporarily forgot about it and got back to it Tuesday night. I'm not good at making decisions on what to get, and tend to get carried away ordering more than I need and then want to whittle it down. I let it rest for a while and fell asleep before getting back to it. When I finally did, I had to change some things, look up some things I'd forgotten, etc. And just plain got distracted for a while. So when I went to finalize my order it wouldn't allow choosing pick-up that same day or evening, and the next day the sale would be over. Usually you have to pick it up the before the sale ends in order to get the sale prices. So I called and easily got the the guy who actually works in that department. He said if I went ahead and ordered it for pick-up the next day, he'd adjust the prices so I'd still get the sale/BOGO prices. Yea!
I looked at the order online after they'd picked the items and the order was ready for pick-up. It looked like they'd removed several items, presumably b/c they were out of stock, and had not adjusted for the BOGO prices on the ice cream and organic blueberries. These were the main reasons I decided to do the order. And I couldn't believe they didn't have any cucumbers in the store.
When I called he said he'd taken care of those things. I'd ordered "pickling cucumbers" b/c I like the little ones, but approved substitution of regular cukes. He said he had substituted those and adjusted for the BOGO prices but it just wasn't showing up in the online version of my order. When I picked up the order almost everything that online had said was removed, was there. So far only glanced at the receipt but prices look like what I expected. Got the ice cream BOGO and organic blueberries 2 for $4.99 instead of $5.99 each. That one, like the waiving of the service fee, was a membership perk. Membership is free - it's their rewards program. The majority of items I bought were regular price, so it was to their advantage, too, I think. And I'm a happy camper and will shop there again. The prices that are higher than I would have spent for those items at the lower priced stores I used to go to in person, weren't too outrageous on the items I chose, so I chalked it up to convenience and not having to go into stores yet, which I'm not doing, or going without those items. One of those stores I used to shop at a lot was the one I had the harrowing Instacart experience with.
I just enjoyed some of those deliciously sweet organic blueberries! I pop them into my mouth like popcorn. They are a very healthy "superfood" so I appreciate getting them affordably while they're in season. Yum!
I hope y'all are well.

m6gm (Kentucky) how are you and Trish doing? I remembered about your knee, but just reread your post and I'd forgotten it said you needed back surgery. I've had back surgery twice. The first and more serious was when I was 17. Twenty years later I had surgery again to remove the rods that had been put in the first time. So I know that back surgery is a big deal and can keep you laid up for quite a while.
I hope you're doing better now and that Trish is too. I also hope you'll check in when you can. I'll keep an eye out here for at least a while longer.
My brother had a knee replacement yesterday and is expecting a long, painful healing experience with a lot of p.t. Made me wonder if your knee is ok now.

The big weather news here isn't the weather itself but the extreme amount of smoke in the air from the Canadian fires. It was bad some days last week, with air quality alerts but it's been even worse this week. I walked out onto my balcony to water the plants and was immediately hit with the the smell of smoke so strong that I looked around to see if there were any fires around here. I'd heard of the smell of smoke in the air from the Canadian fires last week, but I hadn't experienced it. Minnesota borders Canada, but down here in the Cities it's a long way away from them. There is so much haze from the smoke in the air that it looks very cloudy, but it's not clouds. They say that it's actually been sunny, but the smoke has filled the air so much that it looks like it's about to rain.
OTOH there is extreme drought in most of our state and the rest has minor drought. It's negatively affecting agriculture in the state. There's not enough to water crops adequately and streams or rivers where cattle usually get water from drying up so they can't drink from them. I assume that there are other agricultural areas around the country suffering similar conditions. I dread that food prices will probably rise as a result.
On a happier note, Friday was Suni Lee day in MN. The Governor declared it after she won the gold medal for women's all-around in gymnastics. She was on track for the silver behind Simone Biles, but with Simone's withdrawal, Suni got the gold. She's from St. Paul. She's the first Hmong-American Olympian. Her parents were refugees. If anyone doubts the value that refugees and immigrants can bring to our society, IMO, this is a good example.
The champion swimmer, Katie Ledecky is also from here. And some others.
*****
I see that NOAA describes conditions today as "haze" and from tonight through Tuesday as "smoke". So I guess this is as good as it gets until three days from now. I've been wearing a mask when I go out on the balcony to water my plants, but my neighbor told me she heard that masks are not supposed to help with the smoke particles. I've not stayed out longer than necessary. FWIW, my plants are not doing as well this year as in the past. I wonder if smoke or other things are the cause?
From what I've heard these conditions are the result of climate change (or result of the same factors that have caused climate change.) I shudder to think of what is in store if conditions are not cleaned up.

Goldie, I wish your brother luck. There have been amazing advancements with knee replacements. From what I've heard, some people walk out of the hospital the same day as the replacement. I had both my knees replace on the same day almost 17 years ago. Yes, it was a struggle, but a month afterward I was up on a ladder working on sheetrock. My operations were on October 20 and by the end of March I was playing golf. Following the PT orders to the letter is key.

Hi Geezer. I wrote back to you last night, but my computer froze up before I'd finished posting it. When that happens and I have to restart everything, words that are not yet posted get lost. Drats. I hate that.
I don't know what happened, but my brother was kept an extra day in the hospital after his knee surgery. He said he expects a long difficult recovery with pain and a lot of p.t. I assume he based that on what they told him, and/or from others he knows who have had it. It will be good if it's not that bad, as you say. It's better to be surprised in that direction rather than the other way around.
I need p.t. for my back but the co-pays are too steep. But I have to deal with it b/c it's getting worse and worse. This past 1 1/4+ year has caused a loss of most of the treatments I was getting, and the results are letting me know how much those had helped me.
I wish Tru would come back here. I keep checking just in case.

The smoke from Canadian wildfires has cleared out, and I hope it stays that way. The air must be very bad where Tru is, so close to the actual fires. I hope her COPD is ok with all that's going on.
My brother's knee surgery had been postponed until last month due to the pandemic. It had been a problem for him for years. It looks like he squeaked in with it just in time, in a window between surges. He's in Florida and I heard on the news that b/c the hospitals are so full with COVID patients they're delaying elective surgeries again.
m6 are you out there? How are ya'll doing?
Hi Geezer
