10,000 soldiers from Canada, Britain, the US and Free French forces lost their lives during the first day, June, 6, 1944 Invasion of Normandy. The Allies of World War II launched the largest amphibious invasion in history. The total number of troops landed on D-Day was 130,000–156,000 on five beaches codenamed Sword, Juno, Gold, Omaha and Utah. Who knew?

~The Longest Day~ is a 1962 war movie based on the book of Cornelius Ryan of the same name. ... The movie was overseen by the influential Hollywood producer Darryl F. Zanuck and he was very committed to historical accuracy.

New York City is known as the Big Apple. However, what they are less likely to know is that the city got this name from a horse racing column in a local newspaper in the 1920s. The phrase "Big Apple" was used at the time to denote a big monetary prize at any of many prominent horse races held all over the city. However, the city adopted the name, and since then has been known as the "Big Apple." Who knew?

When I lived there '66 thru '73 I used to call NYC ~The Big Rotten Apple~ I've only gone back 2wice since 1973, and on the last trip 3 Junes ago, I did not find it so Bad anymore. But I really do not want any part of it
