It’s illegal to own only one guinea pig in Switzerland. The squeaking rodents are herd animals and can get severely depressed when all alone. In an effort to enhance social rights for animals, Switzerland officially considers owning a single guinea pig an act of animal cruelty. For those who were already single guinea pig owners before the law was passed in 2008, rent-a guinea-pig businesses can provide your beloved fur ball with a pal. Who knew?

Each year, National Read Across America Day is celebrated on March 2nd, the birthday of Dr. Seuss. The annual event is part of Read Across America, an initiative on reading creative by the National Education Association. Since the event is designed to encourage reading in children and is fostered through the schools, when March 2nd lands on a weekend, the day is observed on the closest school day.

Reina Ozbay, then 10 y/o, was recorded singing the The Star-Spangled Banner that is played daily on CBS. She wows the USA at 4:30 AM. This powerhouse, now 11 y/o, is from South Florida and has been performing since she was four. Her multi-award-winning soprano voice is classically trained, and she sings opera, pop and musical theatre. Who knew?

Who Knew???National Grammar Day is observed across the United States each year on March 4th. The observance encourages the use of correct grammar in both verbal and written language. According to the Global Language Monitor, the estimated number of words in the English language is 1,025,109. There is some controversy over that figure, but it’s safe to say it is over a million.
