Sneakers--I understand the financial situation. Luckily wife's retirement came early and her SS tomorrow. Then I get teacher retirement Friday. Do you get yours on Sunday or will it be delayed until Monday? Chocolate cake sounds good. I sympathize with numerous trips to the restroom. I get up three or four times, but Sunday night I slept straight through the niight.
Lorando--Dallas-Washington 4th Quarter was interesting. Hope you have decent weather for Thanksgiving. But then you will eat alone and not traveling. New glasses take a couple of days to get adjusted. Got mine in April but vision has changed and have a difficult time to see in a distance. Insurance won't pay for new ones until April.
Uncle--Does the school count the students tardy when the bus is late. One year, we had a hard nose administration that was doing that, but after enough complaints from parents, they changed. Who knows what JJ will do. But 30 years since last Super Bowl win should sink in soon. I get CBS Sports but missed the game.
Yesterday, had to deal with loud machines that were putting a roof on a church two blocks away. They also have a day school and guess they chose this week do as not to interrupt classes.
Got a call from youngest SIL needing help with cancer sister. Wife had planned to bake the turkey today, but thinks she has a way around the uncertain schedule. Can see being up at midnight finishing it. But we can sleep late Wednesday.
One more day and we are out of here away from family drama. At least until Saturday night.

Good Morning, Uncle. You mentioned Chris Berman in your post. That brought back memories of watching his brother, Len, do sports on WNBC-TV, the local station in New York for many years. He was the regular sports guy on the evening news, but once a month he had a "Spanning the World" segment of the funniest and weirdest sports clips from that month. They were always real laugh out loud (before LOL) moments. I guess being creative must have run in the Berman family. Don't know if he's still around or not. Glad you didn't hurt your wrist when you fell forward at Curling. My left knee occasionally gives out for a split second, but I haven't crash-landed yet. No blood letting for you this week! It won't be long.
Hello, soutxed. Good for you. You and your wife need to spend some time in Victoria, and get away for awhile. Too bad you can't leave your cell phone behind. I like the new glasses. I don't think I realized how much I needed a change in prescription until I started reading my Kindle last night. What a difference! So far the nose pads haven't dug in much. The old ones just had the plastic frame resting on the sides of the nose. My insurance doesn't cover glasses, so these will have to last awhile. I've forgotten what the sun looks like. Since Nov. 10, the sun has shown its face twice, and there's no prediction of sun again through Dec. 5 at least. I need to get outside and grab whatever Vitamin D fuel is available. Your right about not having Thanksgiving Day plans. It looks like I'll be writing Christmas cards, and watching the Lions/Bears game.
Hi, Sneakers. Glad your email client is loaded, and now you just have regular apps to load. I think I was born around the time of ENIAC. Those engineers would have been dumbfounded to see your laptop and what it can do. Michelle sounds like a competent cook. Salmon yesterday and pork roast before that. Can you tell it's almost noon, and my mind is on lunch. Still no definitive word on snow predictions for the weekend and beyond. But the lake is warm, the temperature north and west of here will be cold, and the wind will be blowing. So someone will be the lucky recipient of the first lake effect snow of the season. I vote for sending east NE to Buffalo.

My car insurance bill went kablooey. Logged on their Website and found they were going to repeat the debit for November and December on December 6th. I'm going to key in a payment tonight when I get the Social Security Retirement credited to my main checking account. At least they didn't cancel the insurance.
Prescription order and TurboTax order also went kablooey and I'll pay them tonight.
My Boeing pension payment comes the first business day of the month (Monday) but my account gets credited with it usually late the night before.
Will be able to take an UBER to my Monday appointment with Dr. Clause Monday and back home if AJ wants to work. Only one running vehicle here unless I decide to drive the riding lawnmower to the appointment. (Don't even think of it.)
Refrigerator decided to not cool. I went in and decreased the temperature several degrees and I'm waiting to see if it will cool. Can't get anybody out to look at it today because I'm broke.
I sleep with a couple of one-liter urinals in the bedroom. All I need to do is sit on the edge of the bed, point, and let go. Much better than having to get the walker out in the hall and back in my bedroom again being half-asleep.
Was sleepy last night, went to bed at eight o'clock and got up about dawn. When I told Alexa to turn off the nightlight, it was markedly darker in the bedroom but I had no trouble getting out the bedroom door.
Today is trash day. Took my trashbag out of the trashcan, dropped it at John's door, and knocked. When hewgot back from doing that, I reminded him to take the trash out of the kitchen. The trashcan needed emptying, and there were two thirty-pound bags of Pedigree dog food where the dog food was eaten and the bag filled with empty gallon jugs.
Somebody made a yellow cake. I ate one piece early in the morning and just finished cleaning it up. May get something else for lunch. Yesterday, part of lunch was a serving of ramen noodles with beef flavored powder. Wasn't too horrid.
AJ said this morning he was going to take tomorrow off of work. If we have a refrigerator, we're probably going to HEB. If not, we'll probably do something else for Thanksgiving.

But the lake is warm, the temperature north and west of here will be cold, and the wind will be blowing. So someone will be the lucky recipient of the first lake effect snow of the season. I vote for sending east NE to Buffalo. Microsoft made a couple of changes in Windows 11 that I do not like. They insist on storing the documents and the pictures online. Don't want the documents and pictures online because I want to be able to run without an Internet connection. You would understand if you ever took an Internet connected device to Missouri. Isaiah went to Missouri and found technology had passed the place by. AJ wondered where the Hispanics were, up there the groundskeeping was done by Anglos. So, the app loading is delayed until I figure out how to get the documents and pictures on the main storage. I've got them copied over, but the links in File Manager point off to the Internet.
I was born around the time they were getting interesting things in computers. Oddball mass storage devices that had a number of sheets of magnetic tape, and if they wanted to read one of them they would wrap it around a cylinder and spin the cylinder under read and write heads.
When I was in college, they had an early CT scanner at the University Hospital. They brought scans over to the Electrical Engineering computer lab and they had what was a pretty potent computer of the day arrange the data so you could scroll through it with a joystick. CT scanners now have their own computers that can do that in real-time.
I had a piece of yellow cake for lunch. I'm thinking about having some ramen noodles. You can tell we hit the bottom when it comes to food. Fortunately, the refrigerator is almost empty because it doesn't seem to want to cool. I turned down the temperature several degrees to see if that helps.
Kroger has a Thanksgiving-themed ad to the tune of America's "Lonely People." It ends up with "Share Your Food - Share Your Heart."

Still peeling hospital stickers off of my chest.
AJ got home from work and I gave him the bad news about the refrigerator. He's considering going out and getting one rent to own. Something to do tomorrow. I will be the one who will need to apply. I tried applying online and their system only assumes you have one source of income. I have two: Social Security Retirement and the Boeing pension. I gross more from Social Security but it is subject to enough deductions that I net more from the Boeing pension.
Nearly everybody seems to have taken off Thanksgiving week.
Michelle pulled tonight's supper out of the freezer before it thawed. It's a good time to have a bad refrigerator because we've eaten almost everything in it.
My Medicare Home Health nurse was working today. He rebandaged my foot. It last got bandaged Friday at Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital. He was not very happy with the way the hospital bandaged it.
I think we will have a busy day tomorrow, trying to get a refrigerator in the morning and trying to get groceries after that. We may have to go out and pick up Thanksgiving dinner. We should have had the refrigerator down last year as I was in Ignite for Thanksgiving and they offered meal tickets for friends and family to come eat with their patients. We didn't do that last year because AJ gets squicked in medical facilities. I think he would get used to it between Isaiah and myself.
Evening news on KPRC Channel 2 just finished. I turned off the TV and started SiriusXM Classic Rewind playing on the Amazon Alexa Echo Dot.

Sneakers--Hope you get the refrigerator refrigerator soon. Ours seems to be on its last legs but has been that way for a couple of years. The ice maker died right after the warranty expired. Repair company make it worse, and it was going to costs $200 to repair. Decided to go to dollar store and get a couple of ice trays. Good luck at HEB today as it will be packed. You will need patience dealing with so many who like you waited to the last minute. I understand the feeling of being somewhere with little or no internet. Had that problem in San Perlita until we switch to T-Mobile. Only cell service that works well there.
Lorando--You are not going to watch Cowboys Giants game? Don't blame you. I remember Chris Berman doing a roundup of sports. Must have taken from his brother. Are your new frames metal or plastic or something else? TWC and Newsnation have been mentioning heavy snow for the East Coast. Don't know if it reaches as far inland as your home.
Another manic Tuesday with SIL at the cancer doctor. But we got through it. Ting which monitors are electricity paid for by our homeowners insurance scheduled an electrician for a Tuesday. But between an HEB Christmas party that day plus SIL Tuesday visits to the doctor, tried to change the appointment to another day.
Went to Sam's and got pies for TG. Gave one to sister-in-law to take to San Perlita.
Will be headed out after doctor's appointment. Keep hearing don't hit the road after 1 PM today but have no choice. If I don't post it is because we are busy. But staying at hotel with internet so see what happens. Have a good Thanksgiving.

TV has problems communicating with Comcast Xfinity. So, I've got the trusty Amazon Alexa Echo Dot playing SiriusXM Classic Rewind.
Got Social Security Retirement credited to my main checking account about nine o'clock last night. So, I went in and paid bills.
Paid my vehicle insurance on the Tundra through the end of the year. It was due December 6th and I figured I'd get them out of the way.
Paid for pills from my mail-order pharmacy.
Paid for TurboTax 2024 and downloaded it last night. Went through the taxes until they started wanting my 1099-R from Boeing. Then, I saved my work up to that point. I'll have a complex return in that I have stock sales. Since I can file five Federal E-files with TurboTax, I'll also file Isaiah's taxes. I've done his for the past two years. The past two years, he has gotten back everythig he pays in for income tax and all they'll take out is FICA. Which I told him was very important, it keeps the roof over his head.
Got Windows 11 wireless printer driver. Could not get printer and computer to communicate. Seems computer can't see wireless printer. The manufacturer recommends configuring the wireless printer with a USB cable but does support doing it wireless. Kind of defeats the purpose of a wireless printer to configure it with a USB cable.
AJ will be off doing stuff until eleven o'clock. Then, we're planning to go to Rent-A-Center in League City and inquire about a refrigerator. They seem to have a lot more in stock than Aaron's and I liked their rental policies better. Six months same as cash, I'll likely get a big tax refund this year that will about take care of the refrigerator and the ThinkPad. AJ asked me if I wanted to rent one on-line. I said we need to go look at them because they have new refrigerators and ones returned from leases.
Before eleven o'clock, I need to take a shower. Last cleaning I got was a sponge bath in bed about midnight last Thursday night at Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital. It did get me less smelly. Three nurses scrubbing one patient with warmed disposable washcloths.
Did some stock trading now that I have some money.

AJ said we may go to Golden Corral if we don't have a refrigerator. I would rather he go out and get something to bring home. It's not easy to eat at a buffet if you are on a walker.
Icemakers are a weak spot in refrigerators.
In 2010, I considered getting a manufactured home and putting it next to the access road on my parents' farm. Went far enough to inquire about what Internet you could get there. They said 10 mbps, which was then enough to do Netflix.

Good Morning, Sneakers. Good Luck in your quest for refrigeration. It sure conked out at an inconvenient time. But I can't really think of a convenient time for that to happen. I agree with soutxed. You'll need an extra measure of patience to be out and about today. I had an 8 AM grocery pickup this morning. I usually chat with the loader while she's transferring the groceries, but she was all business today, expecting an exhausting shift. Well, maybe the below freezing temps had something to do with it also. This is the third time I've begun to type this. Was interrupted twice by messages that needed attention. So we'll see how far I get this time. Wishing the 5 of you a Happy Thanksgiving!
Hi, soutxed. Chances are I'll end up watching the Cowboy-Giant game. When I lived in that area I was a Jets fan, and most of my friends and colleagues were Giants fans. Not much satisfaction though, because the Jets are just as bad, if not worse. The snow on the east coast that you mentioned won't be much of a problem here. But after it goes by, we'll get the return counter-clockwise varying winds. That could start up the Lake Effect snow for whoever is in the wind's path, and the stronger the wind, the farther inland it could go. So it can't really be predicted until it happens (or doesn't). The new glasses frames I believe are titanium. I like them because they're lightweight. The optician had to heat them for a long time to get them to bend to fit properly. She said in ordinary use the ear pieces will snap back and retain their shape if bent. I don't plan to bend them to see if she's right. Been wearing these darn contraptions for over 70 years now. Hope you and Mrs. soutxed have a safe trip to Victoria, and enjoy the holiday.

Turns out all the rental places let their help have off today.
AJ has found a used refrigerator, now he has to go get it.
AJ brought me four pieces of pepperoni pizza to have for lunch.
HEB will be open to noon tomorrow.
Having trouble with the printer.

Soutxed: Have a safe and enjoyable trip to Victoria. You and your wife need a well needed break.
lorando: No plans for the holiday either. So I will be shredding a lot of paper tomorrow. Getting ready to get the hell out of here. It absolutely stinks day and night. It is giving me highs and lows. Not a safe thing for me. Enjoy the day off from going anywhere.
Uncle: Just a regular day for you for this Thursday. Have a good rest of the week.
Sneakers: Good luck with your used refrigerator. You will probably need a new one soon. People abuse rentals and leases (as in cars) as it is not something that they have invested in. I have had several apartments where the landlords got used refrigerators. Went though 3 used ones in a short period of time. Was too cheap to buy a new one. In the long run, they spent too much money and the rest is history.
Have a good day on Thursday regardless on how you are spending it!

Didn't bowl Tuesday. I got there ready to bowl, but was told I was put on lane 16 because the monitor didn't work. Since I'm currently a team of one, it was easier to put me on that lane. No other lanes were available, because it's a 20 lane bowling alley and a 20 team league. So I decided to give my knees a break and headed home. Sure do hope they fix that monitor by next week. soutxed, in this area, buses are usually late due to road conditions. Nothing can be done about that. The other reason would be a driver is filling in for another and that drivers previous route delayed the start of the fill-in route. A third, but less likely possibly would be a bus problem that took too long to resolve. 30 years since Dallas last won the Super Bowl? That is a long time. lorando (NW PA), I felt no different Sunday morning after the fall at curling. Thought I'd pulled some muscles, but that was not the case. If I had my feet under me, it wouldn't have happened. I'll be careful tonight. Happy Hump Day! Take care everyone.

In Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital ER.They have been running multiple tests. Some of them more than once. The nurse gave me orange juice laced with extra potassium, I have had six ER visits in November.h
