Sounds like you're deciding between good options for your investments going forward. That's a great situation to be in!
Sorry for your son & family. I'm sure they'll find a way to have some fun anyway.
Weight is a constant battle for so many of us. Mine's up right now, too, but I've turned up the exercise component and trying to work on that other thing.
Pebble's fun b/c it's so iconic and even playing it virtually makes watching the tournaments held there a lot more fun. Much easier virtually, of course. Even on days I don't select it as my course, I still warm up on several of the holes, using the unlimited mulligan option until I'm satisfied with each shot.
The weather here is unplayable today. TG is overrun with kids on spring break.
But yesterday was nice and I played a new to me course. Tried it from longer tees and that was really tough and my score suffered in part due to the length. The last hole, for example, is a long par 5. I hit a good drive, good 2nd shot and a good 3rd shot and still had over 70 yards to the pin -- and it was at the front of the green! My approach was right and I couldn't get the 30 footer to fall for par. So I made bogey there and consider it an excellent outcome! The previous hole is a long par 3. I played driver and actually hit the green, just beyond pin high! I was left with a 28 footer that had 2 and a half feet of break -- drained it dead, solid center for birdie! But struggles on other holes (I had only 2 pars) pushed my overall score above 90. If I play it again, I'll do better.
Have a great week!

Playing the long tees may help you improve even more. It may help you focus on adding a few extra yards to your drives and approaches.
Enjoy the day off. Now you can enter tomorrow with a clear mind, although if you get the weather we are having, cold and windy, TG or the putting green may be your only options.
Got a lot accomplished today. Had an appointment with my Urologist. I routinely run high PSAs so I see him once a year to be safe. Everything is looking good. He gave me the name of a new PCP so I got that scheduled as well. Haven't had a regular physical since pre covid. Also got some things done on my car (oil change, new wipers, and air filter change).
Blew off my Photoshop class last night. It was the last one in the series of four. There are three other four session courses but it makes Mondays too demanding. Will learn PS another way.
Was successful in getting my photos and their catalogs on my new computer. That is a huge win.
Happy Tuesday!!!

I mowed for the first time this spring. Didn't touch the ditches or the far back, but I was very surprised how badly it needed to be mowed. One of my neighbors who uses a lawn service now but still has his equipment has mowed twice b/c the service doesn't start until next month.
Sounds like a very productive day. Good to have the PCP -- they're important with the gov't's health plan as referrals to specialists are needed. Your urologist was fine, I think, b/c it was an established relationship. I've got an annual check with my dermatologist ever since I had a minor issue.
Good to recognize how tight Monday's are and take away some pressure. You could probably teach PS to yourself with a little help from youtube! Congrats on getting the photos up!
I don't think there's much I can do to gain much more length off the tee. I've already straightened out my drives, no longer losing 30 yards to a left to right arc. Father time erodes the distance on all clubs. So what the longer tees do is cause longer approaches or turn par 4s for the young guys into par 5s for us old guys. Or par 5s into par 6s, such as the last that I bogeyed the other day. From a fun standpoint, the longer tees kinda destroy it. One little error and suddenly double bogey is staring at you.
I had a great day at TG on Wednesday, shooting a 75 on virtual Spanish Bay. Then I went to a nearby course on Thursday that I had yet to play this year and tore it up -- literally. I stopped scoring after I dumped my 3rd shot into the stream on the 10th. Nothing was working that day.
But then, yesterday, I went to the 9 hole course I'll play on Tuesdays, starting on the 2nd, weather permitting. My approach on the 1st left me a 28 footer, which I drained for an opening birdie! I made up for that with a double on 2, which hurt, but then I made a par on the next two, then a bogey, and two more pars, though one was a chip in from 17 yards! Then I thought about my score and doubled the last two holes. Ugh. 3 of the 4 strokes over par were completely unforced. Still, a 41 is a whole lot better than at least 3/4 of my 9s there a year ago.
Not golf weather today so I did a putting session and that was it.
Now I'm going to pull a Texas Brisket out of the oven and let it set up for dinner!
Have a blessed Easter!

If DTM was still here he would be mad at me for having the same hand every night. That just happens to be where I am in the sequence and I am too lazy to look for other hands that use all 8 numbers.
You should have been here today for golfing. Low 80's and no wind. Hopefully the weather we are having is heading your way. You get a lot of the same weather we do a day or two later.
Nice round on your Tuesday course. The great news is that without the late slips, you are capable of a great score. It will happen, sooner than later.
The brisket sounds mouth watering. Unfortunately, I am still in weight loss mode so I am doing a lot of chicken and fish right now. Plan on switching to dead cow pretty soon though. It is that time of year.
My mower has come twice already and it has really needed it. The yard is looking really nice, especially the front, but I can't take the credit. I cheat. In addition to my mower, I have a lawn service that comes out several times a year to do all the fertilizing, weed control, and other treatment the grass needs. They have been treating my yard for about four years and every year it looks better. Not sure why our culture values nice lawns instead of practical vegetation.
Going to be busy the next several weeks. On the 6th I am speaking at a conference in the morning then going to my granddaughter's birthday party that night. On the 13th I am speaking at a conference in Columbia Missouri. The following weekend I will be in Clemson shooting pictures of birds. That will be a welcome escape. Then, on the 24th, I am the guest speaker at the St. Louis Camera Club's meeting and will be talking about bird photography. I will also be judging their photo contest for all three levels of photographers.
Getting closer on my in-laws house. My wife has been there each of the last three weekends and will be there again next weekend. The autioneer is set to sell their junk and the house should go on the market in a couple weeks.
Happy Saturday!!!

The only time I remember DTM giving us much grief was when we seemed to be posting a bunch of warped hands. It seemed he was concerned we were taking undue advantage of the rules modification that allowed for a warped situation without an ending Zero. My hands have also been fairly repetitive lately, though the Cumulous I just posted was my first ever of that hand.
You're writing the checks (or other wise paying) for the lawn service so you can take credit! I have a service that applies the chemicals. A few yellow flowers are popping up so they should be here soon. Mowing my lawn is still fun with the tunes and all of the uneven ground. My lines aren't bad!
Sounds like you have a lot going on in the coming weeks. Translation: Lots of breaks from the inlaws!. Speaking of the in-laws, that's great progress by Mrs. Hawk! I'm sure everyone's more than ready for the next step once the house is sold. Hopefully that happens quickly after all of the junk is gone.
As I continue to improve in golf, I'm realizing that while the potential low score slowly drops, the high score ceiling remains unchanged. Which is to say there's no ceiling and you can shoot pretty badly at any time without warning. When a round starts going south, you have to dig in and try to find a way to turn it around but, if it keeps going south, you can't dwell on it. Learn whatever lesson the round provides and look toward a better day.
The Tuesday league was supposed to start today but rain that started just after midnight yesterday cancelled it. The rain kept coming all day, flooding roads and fields. I was planning to head to TG but wasn't comfortable with all the road closures.
It's still raining now. As I type, the thunder is still rumbling. The weather guessers have preempted regular programming due to a nasty storm system that's moving safely to my south. The guesser's disappointment is obvious that, so far, it's not a confirmed tornado yet.
Colder weather will move in (as I believe you noted in the Cbus thread that it has for you) tonight. Golf courses within a 4 hour drive will be incredibly wet for the next few days. I'll be at TG tomorrow and likely for the rest of the week.
Have a great week!

My wife forbids me from cutting grass, and who am I to argue? Something in the grass makes my eyes run and causes my skin to turn blotchy. She will not let me do any yard work. Oh darn!
Our weather has been horrible lately as well. More on that in a bit.
To me, it seems your ceilings are lower and definitely far less frequent. Even the pros have terrible rounds now and then. I really think your high scores will be getting lower as the season progresses and you have more time on real courses. I would not worry as much about the high scores on simulators.
Added a couple more things to get away over the next two weeks. On Sunday, I am having brunch at a different winery, Chandler Hill with the couple I drink with at the other wineries. They have excellent food and their wines are pretty good. Not as good as DRV, but still worth having. I am a member of their wine club as well. It works a little differently than most. I pay $30 a month. That gets turned into a credit for food or drinks. It also gives me a 20% discount on purchases, a $15 credit for my birthday, a barrel room tasing for 4, and a few other perks. I have over $100 in credits available so I may as well use them. Then, next Friday I am having lunch with a good friend.
The past 24 hours have been like a roller coaster. About 6 pm last night, the tornado sirens went off. The wind was shaking the house and the rain was coming down hard. That storm lasted 10 - 15 minutes. Came to find out that a tornado made landfall about 8 miles from our house. No one was killed but several homes were damaged extensively.
I was picking up my son and his family from the airport when their flight landed at 12:15 am (today). On my way to the airport the second storm hit. I struggled driving due to the wind and rain and never got above 40 mph on the highway. Their plane landed safely, but due to the lightening, the ground crews were not allowed to unload luggage so at about 1:00 we decided to leave. After taking them home, I got home just after 2.
On the way home, there was all kinds of debris on the roads near my house, most of it tree limbs. One of the three entrances to my subdivision was blocked off due to a fallen tree. The subdivision next to ours also got hit very hard. Lot of down trees there. Fortunately, we have not seen any damage to our property.
Then at about 12:30 this afternoon, our power went out. A tree fell on the power lines one street over from us. Fortunately, power was restored in an hour and a half. That is enough excitement for a while.
Happy Tuesday!!!

Sounds like you were very fortunate the storm didn't cause you some damage. You were also lucky that the power outage was brief. I don't understand why most power lines, at least in urban and suburban areas, are not buried these days.
The trip back from the airport didn't sound like a lot of fun, either. Hopefully your son's luggage finally made it. Were they relieved to have escaped your favorite state?
Like the additions to your schedule! Sounds like the perfect time to use some of that credit!
The actual on course rounds are what have been bothering me lately. The only thing that's going to negate it will be a good round! The weather is not cooperating and today's rain and snow simply means that courses will remain soft and unplayable for a few more days. I'd like to get out before Tuesday, if possible, but we're all in the same boat and I've played a lot more than most so far this year.
In the meantime, I continue to work on things at TG. The virtual rounds are fun but the score really doesn't matter to me at all other than lower is always better than higher! Today, I had a 78 at Spanish Bay. Not unlike what might happen at a course, I got very lucky on the third hole. I was trying to draw the ball around a dogleg left and ended up pulling it far left. I hit it hard (for me) and the ball landed squarely on a cart path and then bounded over turf where the path curved, landing on it a second and third time. It rolled into the fairway and, when it finally stopped, I had a 243 yard drive and just 80 yards to the pin! I ended up with par there. On the last hole, I had hit an ok drive but poor 2nd and 3rd shots and was facing a 35 yard chip. That's just outside where the game goes into the putting mode that I've described before. I know the cameras don't pick the short shots up right, so I hit my chip a lot harder than I would have on a course. It ended up inside 1 yard and I was awarded a "tap in" par.
But, like that famous Bobby Jones quote good breaks and bad breaks anticipates, I had 5 "putts" that were within about a foot of being one stroke better -- i.e., 3 near birdies and 2 near pars. I have golf buddies who would say they should have had a 73 except for those near misses. I don't assign probability -- it could have been a 73 but those good breaks could just as easily have gone against me, so it also could have been an 80!
It's kind of like the called strike 3 on a close pitch in baseball. Tomorrow it could be called a ball, yesterday it might have been called a ball, but today, it was a strike!
Speaking of baseball, why in the world did they start in March? It turns out the weather here was better then but on any given day, the earlier in the calendar, the worse the chances are that it will be grim. I used to think the first week in April was too early.
Have a great weekend!

The best practice and measure of how well you are doing will always be real courses, but you are ahead of most of your buddies by playing at TG on the days you can't play outdoors. There are still adjustments you can practice at TG that will help plus you are keeping the muscle memory active.
They got there luggage first thing in the morning and were definitely glad to be home.
No clue why baseball started so early this year. My guess is that no matter what reasons they give, it all comes down to revenue.
We were definitely fortunate that there was no damage to our house. The city was responsive as well. Yesterday there were city woodchippers all throughout the area around me cleaning up the debris.
Dodged another bullet Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday morning my low tire pressure warning came on. I topped of the air in all the tires and reset the alarm. It came on again Wednesday afternoon. I checked the pressure in all 4 tires and it was right where I filled it to on Tuesday. Once again, I reset the warning. This time it seems to be holding.
Heading to a mixer tonight for the event I am speaking at Saturday. It is always nice to meet a few of the attendees and make some connections that I can use to personalize my speech by referring to something light, funny, or positive about a few of them during my presentation. Plus, I get free drinks and finger food!!!
Happy Thursday!!!

Here's the answer for why opening day is so early: Figures.
Odd that the alarm would return even though the tires were fine. These up and down temperature days do affect the pressure. Both of my front tires were low yesterday. I stopped at Costco after TG to fill them. That's the best place for several reasons. Air is free there. Their compressor is faster. Plus, they have a little gizmo that latches the filling nozzle to the stem while the air is pumped. Quite a trifecta!
Sounds like a good pregame the other night. Hope the talk went well today!
With the weather improving, I walked 9 holes this morning at the Tuesday course. It was not as wet as I thought it might have been but it was definitely a lift, clean and place day! Most shots ended up with a muddy ball. I played 2 balls all the way, had 2 doubles and 4 pars for an 86. That's one better than last year's handicap. I'll take it.
I was really unlucky/lucky on one of the doubles. I hit my approach shot solidly but couldn't see the ball in flight. Then I heard the ball tick against a branch of a tree on the left of my target line and all bets were off. It could have veered off course, might have gone into a small creek short of the green. As it turns out, it pretty much dropped straight down. I couldn't get it up and down, so it was an early double. So I was unlucky to hit the branch, but lucky to end up with a playable ball.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Sounds like the condition of the course was definitely a factor, but you have to learn to play in varying conditions. Sounds like it was a good round overall and an added piece to your training. What you learned may prove helpful down the road when playing against friends.
The ZX station next to Hotworx has free air as well. Their pumps are nice. You set the pressure to what you want and it stops there automatically. They even have two pumps which came in handy when I went since another car was already there.
The speaking gig went very well. The audience was completely engaged. Afterwards, just about everyone in the room approached me to ask questions and talk about follow up consultations. Some of the other speakers want a follow up with me as well. Even the camera crew complimented me on what I taught them.
Speaking of the camera crew. We talked shop quite a bit and I may use them down the road to film me at other events. Will wait to see what the videos from this event look like though. It is a couple that runs the business and they had a third person helping. I showed the wife a few of my pictures and she liked them so much she called her husband and helper over to see them.
It may sound egotistical, but the others speaking at the event and the host were not at the level I would have hoped. Really didn't learn much of anything from anyone else. On the bright side, I met some really nice people, may get some business from this, and will definitely get some videos of me speaking as well as several still shots that the camera crew took. That is what I was really hoping for,
Hitting the wineries tomorrow.
Happy Saturday!!!

Sounds like you accomplished your goals with that gig and there's moderate upside potential for some additional work.
Since our last posts, the eclipse occurred. The path of totality was about 50 miles or so to the west but I still missed it. Fortunately, VanIsleRover posted a link to an historically accurate reenactment in her humor post yesterday. My thoughts are captured well in the Cbus check in thread. To boil it all down to a single word: Underwhelming.
Got the first Tuesday league round in. Shot an 85, which I'm very happy with even though I left a ton on the table. 2 penalty shots (found the ball both times but couldn't play it), 2 missed very makeable birdie putts and 4 unproductive drives. Still, I managed 7 pars to go against 4 triple bogeys. A good start with tons of potential for improvement.
BTW, I think we picked up the same cold or at least a similar one.
Have an awesome week!

85 is still a very good score, although I see you getting into the high 70's several times throughout the season.
Hope you have recovered from your cold. Mine is almost gone but still lingering a bit.
You didn't miss much with the eclipse. The one in 2017 was much better.
While I am trying to lose weight I have limited my trips to the wineries. This past Sunday was the first time in a month I went. Started with brunch at Chandler Hill. Had the steak and eggs. The steak was a 12 ounce NY Strip and they cooked it perfectly. From there we went to Defiance Ridge. The atmosphere embodied Cheers. All of the staff that knew me came over to say hello, ask how things were going, and either shake my hand or hug me. My intention was to go to Mount Pleasant afterwards, but as you can surmise, my glass mysteriously never emptied. It really made me feel good, and with everything going on at home, I needed it. As always, I made sure I was under the legal limit before leaving.
While I was there they told me they were having an eclipse party there on Monday. I know I told you in the Columbus weather thread I was skipping the eclipse, but the friends I had brunch with had a table for 12 reserved on the patio and all the other people joining them were friends of mine from the wineries so I joined them. Had the steak sandwich with fries. The winemaker at DRV also sat with us so as you can guess, the wine was flowing Monday as well. Going to stay away a few weeks though and keep shedding some weight. Should be where I want to be in about 2 months.
Speaking at a conference in Columbia Missouri on Saturday. When I made the verbal agreement to speak, they quoted a decent amount they were going to pay me. When I received the written contract, it was $250 more than the original amount, and they added a cause stating if they canceled on me, they would still pay me $500 for my prep work. The only thing I didn't like about their contract was that normally I get 1/2 up front and the balance by one week after the event. They are just paying me in full at the event. I can live with that.
Happy Tuesday!!!

Wow, it's been a minute since we've posted here.
That trip to the winery sounds like it was just what the doctor ordered!
I know you were on a photography trip last weekend -- hope it went well!
I'm in a bit of a slump as far as golf goes. No one thing, just everything. Tuesday's round was ok until the final 4 holes, when I went 11 over and lost the match. All I can do is keep swinging and find some rhythm. I know it's not far off but gotta get there.
Just got back a little bit ago from dinner with some friends. Good people, lots of fun!
Have a great weekend!

Definitely has been a while but I needed a break.
There will be dry spells but I am sure you will bounce back sooner than later. Just don't let bad thoughts invade the 6 inches between your ears.
Dinner with good friends is always nice.
My trip this past weekend to shoot pictures of birds was fun but had some hiccups. I had a small rash start last Wednesday on the back of my neck. It had spread a little by Thursday morning and was hurting a bit but not that bad so I left on the trip. It progressively got worse and by Saturday morning it had spread across both shoulders, to my chest, and on the right side of my face. My right eye was close to be swollen shut. Dropped the guys off and went to Urgent Care. The doctor couldn't definitively say what it was and gave three possibilities. 1. Shingles, even though it crossed to both sides of my body. 2. A reaction from something like poison ivy. 3. A skin infection. Her solution was to give me shingles meds, steroids for allergic reactions, and an antibiotic in case it was an infection. I deduced by how I felt after taking each one that the steroids were getting me better. Still have a slight rash but am much better.
Someone that heard me give my AI program recommended me to the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and they are meeting with me tomorrow to see if we are a fit and possibly hire me.
Turning in my final project for my photography class on Monday. Spending most of the day tomorrow printing the pictures for my display. Due to everything going on here, I was unable to get to Augusta enough to get all the pictures I wanted, but I still have enough to turn in. It just won't be to the standards I set for myself.
Happy Thursday!!!

Of those possibilities, the allegic reaction would be the best. Hopefully the steroid continues to do the job and you're done with it. Hate to have stuff like that happen on a planned trip but we just don't have much control over that.
You seem to like the AI presentations so hopefully you picked up the new gig. Sounds like you've got the final project under control despite how busy you've been. Your personal standards are exceptional so I'm sure you'll make the grade in the class!
Hoping I'm starting to turn the corner on the golf slump. Wednesday's round was slightly better than other recent rounds but yesterday I managed an 83 on a fairly tough track. I still messed up a few drives (may be on to a fix there, too) but recovered well from each and hit some great shots with new clubs, leaving less than a 10 foot putt for par. Drained 4 of those! I did miss two birdie putts inside 8 feet but cashed in tap in pars. I'm always good with that. And after a good drive and a lucky 2nd shot that somehow found the back of the green on the last, I drained a birdie putt from just inside 30 feet - if it had not been center cup, it might have continued for a while.
Gonna head to a nearby course when I'm done with this and work on chipping and putting. It's windy here again today and I've had more than enough wind on the course recently!
Hope the weekend's going well!
