On Friday I had a telephone interview with Melanie Lehrer of the GasBuddy organization. Some of you may have signed up for these interviews, too. She had a set list of questions to go through with time for my general input at the end. She seemed to be taking extensive notes throughout the 25-minute long-interview. One thing they seemed particularly interested in is how much I use the website versus the app. Perhaps they're trying to decide whether to invest effort in maintaining the website. At least they're seeking members' input (unlike in past instances, such as when they unilaterally shut down portions of the website), but we'll have to see how much weight they ultimately give to members' opinions. One thing I raised was that the GasBuddy Verified program doesn't seem to be working as intended, inasmuch as the Verified companies aren't keeping the MSL entries for their stations up to date, and the locking of those records hinders members from doing so. I got the impression that this was something Melanie had been unaware of. Let's hope the feedback has some effect. Bless you! I'm glad you were able to say something to an actual staff member about that particular issue. Let's hope it has some effect indeed!

The route that I take out of town has a new Exxon station under construction. They are probably pretty close to opening. Their pumps are installed, their price sign is installed (but not lit), and they had the lights on the canopy operational when I came home after dark Monday evening.
I seem to be the GasBuddy in my area that even knows a Master Station List exists.
I added a Phillips 66 on the day it opened. In fact, I went past it going south and it wasn't open. When I came back on the same road going north, they had a "NOW OPEN" banner. I had my iPad with me, so I launched the Web site and added it to the Master Station List.
I've been watching a Shell station under construction close to where I lived from 1994 to 2012. They don't have a yellow and red Pecten yet, but they have a name on the C-store. Hopefully, that Shell station will be cheaper than the Shell station that closed recently a couple of miles away on the same road.

so, what good is GB's MSL if any adjustments made on the website are not accepted? Getting error messages as well as .... well,... nada. Going back to station shows previous state. Cannot add diesel to stations we frequent (and prices even show in pictures posted as MSL photos).

Okay, here's a situation I'd like some opinions on: A station is listed as closed but is in fact open; however, they don't advertise prices on the street and only offer full service. While it is a place that actually sells gasoline for vehicles, the situation isn't conducive to regular reporting. Would you mark it open, or leave it alone? Oh - and it's a small station whose main business is a repair shop. Mark it open, after all, they DO dispense fuel.

If you want to change any information about a station, go to the MSL on the WEBSITE, find the station, then click on edit. You have to have a minimal number of points to make any changes. In the past couple of days I've made updates on a couple of local stations, and the changes were recorded within 48 hours. If that doesn't work, send an e-mail, and insist on a response from a real person. I also post an edit on the app (Suggest Station Edits) and note the changes as a review of that station. All bases covered--piece o' cake.

Making changes on the website are definitely faster to take place, in my experience.

Ok, I have a question about the MSL. We have a local station that is currently only selling Ultra gas --93 octane -- (a pump problem probably), but they are selling it for the price they would charge for regular. The signage shows the same price for regular and premium (which of course, the app won't accept). How should I mark the station? They are technically not selling regular or mid-grade, but if I mark those grades as not available on the MSL, it's not showing up on the app unless you are searching for premium. I currently have it marked as only premium available, but am thinking I should change it back so the station is being updated.
Any thoughts?

Problem solved, they are back to selling all grades again.

annapdriver - That "reasonableness test" built into the GB database rules doesn't allow for any kind of sudden swings - such as the one you describe, or the one I know of in SW VA where once a week a certain station sells premium for the same price as midgrade. As for being visible on the app, any user can go into the filters by grade and turn off the feature that says "hide stations that don't have my fuel" (but many probably don't know that feature is turned on by default). It would be nice if we could mark individual grades as out without having to finagle the MSL - but that's probably not on GB's radar screen. Glad to see that the station got all its fuel grades back.

I just noticed that a station I updated from Chevron to Shell still shows the Chevron logo, even though the name was successfully updated.

GB could be having a backlog in changing/updating station logos - as recently they've been dealing with the stations that have dual branding. I had submitted dual branding for one station in my area and it took several months to kick in with the logos.

ib2chille - As it stands now, the logo has to be changed by the staff in a separate operation. They may do it if you sent them a help request at help.gasbuddy.com, but response rates and times are highly variable right now.

At least we don't need support to fill our tanks with.
