I have started reading MC's Bosch detective novels. I like them because they give all the day-to-day details of the investigations and the police procedures. Not much in the way of action/shoot-em-up like Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels, but I am sure they are more realistic about the plodding cop work of "turning over the rocks underneath the rocks."

I like the Connelly books, too. The first time I encountered him was on a CD version of "The Concrete Blonde." Excellent.

I'm also a fan of the Bosch series.
Connelly's use of Bosch's brother alongside Bosch illustrate well the ethical and professional issues cops, lawyers and prosecutors deal with daily and he does an excellent job of presenting, seemingly at least, all perspectives. Bosch's kid adds the family element. I also like it that Bosch is far from perfect.

I've now watched the full 6 seasons of Bosch (only 10 episodes/season) on Amazon Prime. I liked it a lot. There's a ton of deviation from the books though they do follow a lot of the storylines. Season 7 was supposed to go forward but I'd guess the pandemic affected filming.
