I just picked up another old camera - a Kodak "bridge" camera. It was $1 for an unknown condition camera, so no big loss if it was a dud. Turned out to work fine though charging its Li-ion battery was the challenge, apparently it was a failed challenge to the previous (temporary) owner too.
This one has 12x optical zoom (33mm to 396mm equivalent), optical image stabilization, 10.1 MPx. Supposedly this exceeds that of my 55-200mm lens for my DSLR (Nikon), alas, the Nikon is 16MPx.
Mainly I wanted to see its picture quality to make sure it doesn't have that "weird pixelation" that I see some crap cameras have when dealing with higher ISO (I'd rather have the noise than the weird pixelation). So far I don't see it, just noise, so that's good.
Its minimum close-up focus distance (about 6") is nowhere near that of my 12MPx Canon (will do about 2") though it's slightly better than of the 18-55 on my Nikon (about 8"). I do have close up filters for my Nikon but not as convenient as my Canon so it does most of my close up photographic work.
I'll need to take some zoom shots and see how they show up. I suspect that the shutter speed rule of thumb will need to be followed...improvised with the camera...

Digital Cameras can be fun, no doubt. But in the end...Who REALLY Prints or Saves the shots you accumulate, except if taking pictures is the way you make a living ?
AFter a few years I do nothing but ERASE them. Bummer
