Before March 27 I had read that it was expected the various state and local sites on the web would cease to exists as their domain name registration came up for renewal. Can anyone confirm if this is happening? Our IL and Chicago sites still work - and I get data from them I can't get via the smartphone app.

Thanks gashole. If IL and Chicago sites are ever "deprecated" I have a problem, because the generic search at gasbuddy.com won't allow me to search the way I need to, by brand, statewide. (I do this in support of a price prediction thread I have maintained for 10+ years) In fact the by brand search is missing many brands. Maybe the brands have to pay to be listed!

For the past few weeks the site I've always used, memphisgasprices . com, "defaults" to the generic GB site. Rather than try to weed through that one to find what I want I just re-enter memphisgasprices . com, and it goes to the original familiar site.

I got a head-up from GasBuddy user "pelicansfan" about this. GasBuddy keeps adding features to the app that have no corresponding functionality in the so-called "full site." And most of the news stories are only peripherally related to subjects interesting to GasBuddy members.
It would make sense to go to one site. Fewer domain names to maintain. And, given how the Internet is moving to HTTPS Everywhere, it's moving away from unsecured sites. I have a Web domain for my hobbies (genealogy and sneaker collecting, although in some respects it's turned into a FAQ on me) and I updated it to use HTTPS last New Years' Eve. My Web presence provider (pair.com) offers free "Let's Encrypt" certificates. They recommended making the switch; switching to HTTPS blocks a number of malware attack methods. In their system, it was trivial to make the change.

Yes, sneakers - for instance, such items as beer, wine, full service, and E15 ("Unld88") could have easily been added as checkoff features in the MSL, but haven't been. Most of us have seen the writing on the wall for years. I just think it's too much trouble for them to manage right now that they're focusing on Pay With GasBuddy and other (to us) periperal items. What works in our favor for the moment is that the tail is wagging the dog so hard they can't change the dog.
