Latest news in the Maleah Davis case in Houston is that Derion Vence (who has confessed to the murder, but he said it was an accident) is going to have a mental health evaluation. All I'll say is it wasn't an accident that the body turned up in Arkansas.

But that should not excuse him from consequences. If there were others who suspected he had these issues and did nothing should also be punished.

Case in Houston of a mother who was apparently trying to kill her four-month-old daughter. The baby was rescued by by the mother's boyfriend. They took the baby to one of the local hospitals and found she wasn't hurt. The mother reportedly said, "Why don't you die? Why are you still alive?" The mother was taken to the Ben Taub Neuropsychiatric Center, the main psychiatric emergency room in Harris County. She was also reportedly suicidal.
I was taken to Ben Taub in November 2005 when I went days without sleeping. Kind of a cross between an emergency room and a jail. As close to being in jail as I want to be.

A police officer here in the Rio Grande Valley was killed by someone with drug and mental health issues. Should not have been out in society but judges give him a slap on the wrist and turn him lose. Sad.

The trial for the accused school shooter in Santa Fe, TX, has been moved on a change of venue to Fort Bend County. One of the local TV stations (I think FOX 26) commented that Fort Bend County was still in the same media market as Santa Fe. Wall to wall coverage on the local news. The prosecuting attorney won't stop talking about the death penalty, and the defense attorney won't stop talking about an insanity defense.

Authorities say a 26-year-old Houston woman who was driving an SUV toward her children in an apparent game of “chicken” struck and killed her 3-year-old son.
Harris County prosecutors said Friday that Lexus Stagg is charged with criminally negligent homicide in the June 11 death of her son.
They say surveillance video from an apartment complex shows Stagg getting into a Lincoln Navigator, then backing up. As her three young children began running after her, she drove the SUV forward. Two children moved out of the way, but the 3-year-old was caught under a tire.
This seems like more proof we have a serious mental health issue our President, Congress and State Legilators are ignoring.

Trump is a serious mental health issue. Unfortunately, Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) is not a DSM-V diagnosis. However, given the syndrome of symptoms shown by those who have Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), the symptoms of ODD and the symptoms of TDS pretty well match one-to-one.

Unfortunately, TDS is what Trump supporters are suffering from. They are totally deranged in their support of Trump. Reality doesn't affect them at all.

One of our posters on another thread mentioned that FOID (Firearms Owner ID) card fees were going up in Illinois the first of July.
Was curious about what a "FOID card" was. It's an ID card issued by the Illinois State Police that authorizes the bearer to purchase guns or ammunition.
Looked at the restrictions. One of them that was you must not have been in a mental hospital in the past five years.
Probably a good idea. Cuts down on people doing impulsive and irrational things.
On the other hand, Texas is probably too strict with their concealed carry permits. Basically, if you take any neuroscience medication, you can't get a concealed carry permit. Some people basically can't function without their pills. They've tried tapering me off numerous times; I'm one of them. The lowest GAF (Global Assessment of Functioning) score that I've received over the years was 23 (higher is better, it's scaled from 1 to 100).

So far, only tampering with a corpse. Harris County District Attorney is busier than a one-armed paper hanger.
