This topic will be edited to add guidelines that we hopefully won't need. They apply to all parts of the forum. To discuss or propose, please begin a separate topic in this board.
- RESERVED MEMBER NAMES - "admin" "forum" and "gbo" strings are not accepted in any member name, with or without additional characters in the name. Those trying to get clever like that may find their account deleted and will have to apply for a new name. If you can think of another clever name to use to imply some kind of staff association, please remember that it too can be just as easily be added to the list of reserved names.
- ADVERTISING PROHIBITED - No advertising or other speech designed to elicit sales is allowed. Ratings and experience discussions are OK, but avoid libel.
- MISPLACED TOPICS SUBJECT TO MOVE - Admin reserves the right to move misplaced topics to more appropriate boards, and will usually discuss it with the OP author first. PM if you disagree with such a move.
- SUBJECT (TOPIC TITLE) CLARITY ENCOURAGED - Please be as specific as you can in a subject. "I need help" without specifying what you need help on would be classified as unclear. Ditto for "A new idea" and the like. Admin reserves the right to modify titles if it will be useful to users.
- FORKING TOPICS DISCOURAGED - There is no way of replying to another reply in a topic except by reference (referring to the author, date and time and the like or by quoting). Thus a new train of thought may not easily be followed by the reader. So if someone gets off topic (or wishes to), instead of carrying on a second discussion in the same topic (a.k.a. "forking"), you should create a new topic for the new subject in some appropriate board. Once you have done that, then, go back and post a link to the new topic for those who wish to follow:
a) While in the new topic, highlight and copy the new topic's URL to your clipboard.
b) Return to the old topic, and in a post, paste the URL into the link tool (world icon), explaining why you should visit the new topic. (Note: EVERYTHING to the left of the first / in the URL may be omitted, because the system knows where "here" is.)
This bit of etiquette allows the original topic to be carried on without any distractions due to a new subject, which you have removed out of earshot, so to speak. You could do this in the old forum too for the same reason, but now you have actually been trained how to do it, haven't you?
