The Jags are coming off a horrible 2020 season, losing 14 straight after winning their opener.
That performance won them the #1 pick in the 2021 NFL draft.
Plus, yesterday, it was announced that former college coach Urban Meyer will be the new coach. College coaches typically fail in the Pros. It will be interesting to see how Meyer does.

Before the Meyer hire, I thought it was nearly certain that the Jags would take Lawrence, though Smith's outstanding 1st half performance in the CFP championship could vault him to the top of the heap. Still, it's a QB league and by all accounts, the Jags desperately need a QB. Will the Meyer hire cost Laurence the overall #1 pick in the 2021 NFL draft?
I've heard Meyer gush about Buckeye QB Justin Fields and it's possible he took the job just to be able to coach Fields! I hear they have the most CAP money to spend of any team. Love to see him go after Zeke and a few of his other former players that are in the league -- maybe bring both Bosa boys there eventually? -- I could become a JAX fan!
Also, during the Ohio State/Clemson semifinal, with enough time left that Clemson could have in theory mounted a comeback, I saw Lawrence on the sideline with a big grin on his face, yucking it up about something, and it wasn't a score. I'm certain that if Justin Fields were in the same situation, there's no way he'd be able to crack anything close to a smile. If Meyer saw that (he was at the game, I believe, so it's very likely he didn't see it live), I think it would be enough to diminish Lawerence in his eyes.

Following up on the Meyer era at JAX, I was thinking yesterday how he's always been tight with NE legend Bill Bellichick. Big Bill draws at least $12 million a year according to this report attributed to Forbes. Another report suggests he makes $20 million, more than former Pats QB Tom Brady. Anything in that range is a huge number. Of course, the NFL absolutely operates on a, "What have you done for me lately?" basis and memories of 6 previous Super Bowl victories are fading fast on the heels of a 7-9 season. At the top end of the range, that's just shy of $3 million/win. That reality is apparent at the second link, above, with this comment: It's not like Bill is this warm and fuzzy lovable character. He's just the opposite and, I suspect, a personality that might otherwise have been viewed as grotesque was tolerated because of the results. Which brings me to a couple of questions: 1. With his spot in Canton assured, what does Bill Bellichick have left to prove as a head coach? I can't think of anything. 2. If so, with his good friend, Urban Meyer, starting his first gig in the NFL, might Bill decide to leave the bitter cold of NE and sign on as Meyer's DC in sunny Florida?
