Are you surprised Kelley was sent down? I'm not surprised that Kelly was sent to start the season in Memphis because he needs playing time. April tends to have too many off days and rainout days which would result in Kelly not getting the at bats that he needs. He'll likely be called up by Memorial Day.

Mike Mayers continues to pitch impressively in Spring Training games. He may make the opening day roster.

The infielder the Cardinals acquired in the Piscotty trade, Yairo Munoz, is an impressive prospect. A good hitter who can play multiple positions.

The Cardinals released Jason Motte today. Derrick Goold of the Saint Louis Post-Dispatch wrote: "The Cardinals granted Motte his unconditional release Thursday, but the hope is that the veteran righthander and the club will be reunited as soon as Saturday. Motte has 48 hours to explore other opportunities and find out if there is a major-league job for him with another team. If he clears that period without an offer, he can elect to return to the Cardinals and has already been told they have a spot for him. He would have to sign a new deal, as he'll be a free agent. If Motte agrees, he'll be assigned to Class AAA Memphis at that time, an official said."
Now to watch and see if another team claims him.

Yairo Munoz and Francisco Pena are named to the opening day roster while Harrison Bader, Luke Voit, and Josh Lucas are assigned to the Memphis Redbirds. Bader played well enough to stay with the Cardinals, but he would not get the adequate amount of playing time with the presence of Ozuna, Pham, and Fowler. Munoz adds versatility because he plays infield and outfield.

Kudos to Mayers for making the final piece to the pen and Munoz for the final roster spot

Adam Wainwright will start the season on the disabled list because of a strained left hamstring, the team announced Sunday. Too bad about Wainwright. Jack Flaherty takes Wainwright's spot in the rotation. It's an opportunity for Flaherty to shine at the MLB level.

I feel bad for Waino, I know he was looking forward to what was most likely his last home opener

Jordan Hicks has been added to the opening day 25 man roster. That is a surprise, given his age and the tough start to Spring Training that he had with being late to mandatory meetings. The addition of Hicks cost John Brebbia, who was optioned to Memphis.
