jcs72 - using your Photo Gallery, look for image/resize or something like that. Try to resize with width of 800 (let automatic height be assumed) then "save for web" if an option like that exists. Give the file a new name and the result should be considerably smaller. If you can find the save for web option, you might not even have to play around with the resize option. Check it out and get back. I'll be able to help you more when I get back on next week. niaw1, there's a "Resize" feature under Properties, and I tried it and, voila, it worked! Thank you!

Once you open Paint on a pix, you can do [Alt-E] to get a box where you can reduce the size by typing in one percentage number. If no good. do [Alt-Z] to back up, and try another percentage until the PC screen is filled nicely. Usually that will give you a small enough file. Note that during all this resizing, the size on disc number won't change, so ignore that number.
Before starting resizing, make a copy of the pix and open Paint on the copy, so if you blow it, you can easily start over. To keep track of what you've done, put the percentage in the file name, e.g. somename(100).jpeg, somename(25).jpeg, etc. After a while, you'll be resizing up a storm.
If you resize to bigger than a screen full (but still less than 1 MB), the forum will automatically limit the width. So no point in trying to get bigger. As I recall, there are some admin settings for that process, but I haven't looked at them for years and have made no adjustments in this forum yet.

I tried to upload a picture a bit ago, but I got a message that all the space for images has been exhausted. Wonder if we'll run into the same problem with messages?

We have 200 MB of attachment space, and it's used up! Something must be done, so look for an announcement.

Hello,
Was not able to post any pics all day and the picture feature still isn't working.
I really like this feature and it really adds to the posting and thread's experience.
Some of my threads like "Post a road sign" wouldn't be able to continue without a pic.
Hoping you can get that feature back up and running. I really miss it. Thanks so much for this great forum!

I engage in overkill: Adobe Photoshop CC to resize Adobe Dreamweaver CC to publish the resulting file to my Website
I could use FileZilla (which I do use to publish the genealogy part of the Website), but Dreamweaver's considerably more automated for one or two files.

The ultimate answer is to host the image elsewhere and call it from here using the code generated by the picture frame icon, namely, [img src="http://somesite.com/someproprietaryidentifyingmethod" alt="Some description for the sight impaired's text reader."] .

They also have a "max-width" attribute. It will be needed if you're linking big pictures from elsewhere, like this one:

Sneakers - I use PS Elements (only $49 for the app in Win10 - a lot cheaper than full blown PS) to resize and adjust whatever. Also use Dreamweaver to publish. I had to update PS since I was using PS CS2 from XP days and couldn't port it to Win10 last Fall. One of these days I'll put my photos on a dedicated site.
