I had a Geo Metro a lotta years ago. I bought it new for the economy (rated 51 hwy 34 city). Never got the rated mileage, had more than its share of mechanical problems, went through tires quickly (couldn't keep it in alignment), rusted out from road salt faster than any other vehicle I had. Got rid of it as soon as the warranty expired.

BGJam : Thank you for your input . so far i have had only a minor Cam shaft oil leak . and wind noise from a poor fitting top. we have no rust, or salt (Arizona) . I have not heard about the front end problem you speak of . but the car did have brand new looking but 10 year old tires when i got it and they where rotten but correctly wearing . now they have been replaced. i will be keeping my eye on them for uneven wear.
thank for your time.

I had one. Good gas mileage. Lousy ride. The unibody weakened on mine causing the front tires not to be able to line up properly. This caused tire wear to go from crappy to down right awful. Especially the fronts. Heaven forbid you actually strike something or are hit by another car. You probably will not survive if the impact is in excess of 25 mph.

Egg man: do you know what the problem was with the frame? When looking at these i found a few where the doors did not line up with the striker correctly . the doors did close but they acted like worn out door hinges, but the hinges only had a tiny bit of play, not enough to cause the problem. the car i did pick had no such problem. the doors closed correctly. I would like any information you can give. information i might be able to use to avoid this happening to me . thanks.
Ps: mileage on the car with the bad frame?
