Chey1954 misses the Gas Buddy "Astronomy Picture Of The Day" (APOD) thread that we had back on GasBuddy, and wondered if we couldn't recreate it here? Why not!? Let there be APOD! :-) It's just a thread to share and comment about the fun stuff we find on the NASA APOD website at apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.htmlSo, let's resume the enjoying and sharing! :-)

Yesterday's APOD, "Blue Moon Tree" ( apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap180328.html ) is very pretty! :-) I suppose, since we have no fixed header block on these new threads, we'll have to regularly copy and repost the "header" at the end of each post... - - - - - - - Watch the NASA APOD website at apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html and share here when you find the good stuff! :-)

Hmmm... didn't work for me.... wonder what I did wrong? Can't just copy and paste, evidently!

Chey, I'm not sure what went wrong for you with that link embedding, unless maybe you copied a copy. I find that that truncates the link somehow. If you copy the actual link from the browser when you're on the APOD page, embedding THAT seems to work! :-) - - - - - - - Watch the NASA APOD website at apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html and share here when you find the good stuff! :-)

Good job, Chey! Yeah, for some reason, a text copy drops the leading " h t t p s : / / " letters. :-) Today's Saturn Ring & Moon Shadows pic, apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap180402.html , is pretty cool too! :-) - - - - - - - Watch the NASA APOD website at apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html and share here when you find the good stuff! :-)

Chey: Typically, if there is something before the domain name—apod is before nasa.gov—you must omit the www. You probably thought you had copied it right, but... alpinedude: "...since we have no fixed header bock on these new threads...." There is a header that can appear above the blue subject bar, but that is for admin only. The thread subject on the blue bar is editable by the OP author (you in this case), but, unlike URL's in the text, a URL on the subject bar is not automatically converted to a working link; you must manually post the BB code for a link in the bar. That should work, but it is a poor place to do it, because the subject line has limited space. You have several options: - Link - You can edit in a link at the very top of your post like this:
Link to NASA's picture of the day: [a href="http://apod.nasa.gov"][u]apod.nasa.gov[/u][/a] and then continue on with your existing text. If the reader clicks it, he gets the pix. - Call - You can edit in a call for the current day's pix somewhere in your post like this:
[img src="http://apod.nasa.gov" alt="Picture of the day"] The reader sees the full-sized pix without any action required. - Attach - Download the pix to your PC, reduce it to less than 1 Mb, and attach it to your post. You will get a thumbnail that, if clicked, will give a 1 Mb pix. For reader convenience, to the right of the image tag follow with this instruction:
[font size="1"]Click to enlarge; click [b}Back{/b] to return.[/font]
I find that all of these lead to the pix: apod.nasa.govapod.nasa.gov/apod/apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.htmlFinally, now that you have been enlightened, you can go back and edit or delete posts as needed to clean up your thread, so that all who come hereafter will think you already knew the above, instead of being lions and bears just stumbling around.
