I've been drooling over the VW ID Buzz concept. I have a 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan with 85,000 miles on it, and I'm hoping to hang onto it until the Buzz comes out in 2022 and get one if the price isn't crazy high.

Bought a Ford Fusion EnergI the day after Christmas one year ago. All leather interior - heated seats - w/the works. Never plug it in. EnergI charges as you drive, using a combo of e-power and gas. It get 42 to 97 mpg, even in these mtns. $38k list. Paid $28k cash. 12 gallon tank gets Over 600 miles.
Highly satisfied.

There's many more option than just gas or electric. There's the all-electric (like the Tesla) and there's the mix of both (hybrids) like many Toyota's now and Honda and Kia, etc.
As an engineer, I doubt we'll get to the place where the batteries of today will get to the 300 mile range but the hydrogen engine being worked on looks promising.
Last year, we needed to replace my wife's old Corolla (2008, nothing wrong with it..daughter totaled her car so Mom let her have her old Corolla). We looked at the new Toyota's and she saw a light-green car so we checked it out..it was a 2017 Prius 2. We drove it around and she loved it an since it was the older model I stole it from the dealer. We just took her on a cross-country trip (Colorado to Maine and back) and she averaged 60.1 mpg. The strangest part was driving for 5+ hours without needing fill up. (She'll go about 600 miles on a tankful...it holds 12 gallons.) We had to stop to clean bugs from the windshield before she needed to be refueled. Amazing car!!

Love your story, my youngest daughter (turned 33 yesterday) has and older Prius, probably 6-7 yrs Old, She loves it, and when she's here in S Fla and I drive it, I really like it a lot.
I believe the Owners and those of us who have driven them realize that is most definetely a VIABLE Transportation Option, but the REST of the Mortals Out there have no PRAISE for them at all.
Strange isn't it ??

The Prius Prime is displacing the Prius - fuel efficient cars that also have an EV range are more attractive to metro and suburban populations what do a lot of commuting. As fuel efficient as your '17 Prius is, the Prime (and other EV hybrids) exceeds it, which is why the Prius is dying. You marvel about not having to buy gas for 600 miles, these folks don't have to buy gas for 2 months... Battery technology is still young in its current form, and you don't know what new developments Engineers will stumble across (exchange batteries rather than charging a 'permanent' battery). Hydrogen is a very good alternative but there is currently very little in the way of a distribution network whereas Tesla has created a vast network. Tesla S went 670 miles at 25mph on a single charge - the equivalent of 2 gallons of gas; Tesla drivers claim Model S distance record of 670 miles on one charge300 mile range is already easily achieved by Tesla with everyday driving. Today. Tesla Range TableThis is just the most affordable Model 3;

I test drove a Hyundai Kona EV recently and really liked it. It was a bit small for my needs so I'm waiting for a compact EV or that elusive ID Buzz to come along. The 2009 Grand Caravan is within a few miles of turning 100,000 so I have time.

As an update, I'm still driving the 2009 Grand Caravan. It's got 110,180 miles on it now. I have $100 invested on the waiting list for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 which was said to be available in the fall of 2021, but they've recently said winter. We'll see. I'm thinking it might be late spring 2022 before I get one. The ID Buzz is still at the top of my wish list, but the expected date for it is now 2023. The pandammit is a major factor here, I believe.

Well, VW's prices for the ID Buzz came out and it'll be starting around $70,000 here in the States. That knocks it off my list. I'm concentrating on the Hyundai Ionic 5 now.

I've done it. I should be picking up my 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 around April 12.
Just for shiits and giggles, the 2009 Grand Caravan is being donated to a local homeless center. It should have a little over 115,000 miles on it and is a strong runner.
