I use it regularly, both at home and at work. If you come from Photoshop, as I did, it's a bit tricky with the workflow at first, but it does 99% of what Photoshop will do (at least the 99% I need) and it's a free and open-source product. I recommend it highly. Most of the photos I post here are edited with Gimp.

I was looking to get the $57 a month (with tax) Adobe Creative Cloud out of my budget. Main things I used were Dreamweaver and Photoshop. Found a copyrighted freeware alternative to Dreamweaver and for my purposes I was able to replace Photoshop with GIMP. Major thing I had to get used to in GIMP was that it requires that you export JPEG files. Photoshop also has its native format, but it's not as insistent about using it as GIMP is about using their native file format.
