As most of you are aware, this site has banner ads. Less annoying than the ones at The Other Site, but banner ads still. That place was a cesspool of banner ads.
I signed up for ProBoards+ and I still get banner ads. And I get nagware when I turn on my ad blocking software.
Sounds like a case of bait and switch to me. ProBoards has my money, but they aren't keeping their end of the bargain. I decided to sign up, probably better to support something you like than to depend on me clicking through banner ads.

Have you complained about it to Proboards support?

Is ProBoards guaranteeing you that they will stop any and all ads from appearing on your screen, or are they saying that they're making a "best effort..." and that it's possible that some may appear as advertisers work to circumvent ProBoards efforts, and that ProBoards will continue to work to reduce or eliminate ads from appearing (the same way anti-virus software works)?
Seems to me, and I'm not going to check out ProBoards specifically, that it's more a game of one-upsmanship than bait and switch.
As for "The Other Site", I didn't have a problem with banner ads, and I don't use an ad blocker, and just accepted the few that might have appeared (and they weren't imposing) as the cost of using a free website.

I honestly don't care either way for the ads, but I do care about cross-site tracking. This is unacceptable.

I don't see any ads anymore. Used to occasionally see the one nagware, but even that one seems to have disappeared. I do see the "Support the services..." banner but that one seems inert, doesn't bother me. I'm using 3 extensions, ABPlus, Ghostery, and the recently added Privacy Badger. The culprit might be Viglink. I don't have it specifically blocked though. As an aside, I noticed a service active here called 'Bidfilter'. This appears to be designed to stop the monitoring of keywords in order to maliciously cause a referral to 3rd party advertiser/merchant websites. Most likely Facebook/Google/Instagram ads. I wasn't aware of such a service. If it is as I suspect, it has the Hemond Seal of Approval.
