A month ago, couple cleaning out their storage unit gave me a wide-screen Acer laptop & power supply with XP on it. Today I tried tweaking it up by deleting files and programs. It was a mess.
There was no IE on it, only Chrome. XP couldn't figure out how configure a WiFi connection, so everything was done off line, I got rid of all the gaming stuff, but the Mrs. had downloaded a lot of couponing stuff that almost amounted to malware. I still haven't gotten rid of it all as the Uninstaller is missing. After a while one just wants to wipe it all out and buy a copy of Windows and start anew.
I wonder if there is a way to install IE by copying files to a thumb drive?

Is the Recovery partition still in place? In Acer's universe it's called eRecovery. The actual hidden partition is named PQService.
Here is some archived discussion on using eRecovery. You might find some insight here.

I think the partition is still there. I'll have to take a look when I get done with another project. Thanks.
