What was the longest power outage that you ever had to deal with? Vote in the poll and add comments here.
The longest I ever had was about 30 hours. A bad storm hit our area and one of the things that got damaged was the service drop to our house. Needless to say, with all the downed distribution wires, our crummy little 120/240 V single phase service drop was the low on the priority list. Power companies will do the repairs that will restore the largest number of customers first. It was not a big deal for us as we have a standby generator and always have enough fuel on hand to run it for a full week if need be. Our typical power outage lasts about 4 hours. It's nearly always caused by lines downed by falling trees in a storm.

We generally experience numerous power outages per year lasting hours/days, 3 this year that lasted 2 to 5 days, too many to remember that lasted minutes/hours and 3 yesterday that lasted hours. Power was still out at one of my properties at 8:00 AM this morning.
The longest power outage I've experienced was about 3 weeks after a Derecho with sustained straight line winds in excess of 100 miles per hour.
Several of my properties were among the last to have their power restored.

I am the last and only house on a half mile dead end "gravel" road. if wind blows down poles you can bet my poles are the last to get fixed. Power and internet are "extras" in life. if there working that's great if not.....it's just another Bad day.
To answer the question we have seen 2 weeks without power before and 6 months without internet. "Something" is out every few months.

The longest I went through was the big northeast outage in November of 1965. I forget exactly how long it was. In my current house in Peabody, Ma, the longest was 4 hours during hurricane Gloria in 1985. We almost never lose power here, and if we do its for a very short duration. In 2004, Hurricane Ivan hit our area and left us without power for 15 days. Miserable with the temps in the 90's, high
humidity, and cold freezing showers. Hope to never experience that again.

www.weather.gov/dtx/1980derechoI was at work and it was 9am break so we were all outside watching this beast roll in. I remember over by a friends house there was a garage door bent over a big thick powerline and just dangling there over the road. I wish I had a picture of it. Craziest storm I ever experienced.

10 miserable days in January and Febuary of 2009. We had a major ice storm across western Kentucky and the power went out about 9 in the morning. I had a water bed that was like sleeping on an ice cube. Gas and water were not affected, so I could cook a hot meal and take a hot shower. Many stores were closed and the ones that stayed open would only accept cash. After 4 days, I found a diesel heater that kept the house at about 60 degrees. Before the next winter, I bought a gas fireplace and a generator.
