UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Assuming that I can learn everything I need to, this will be eventually reduced to a tutorial. Meanwhile I will record bits and pieces as I learn. Only minimum required to embed a photo in a forum post will be discussed for now. My first impressions are that the whole scheme is not intuitive and could be improved a bazillion percent.
Display name unavailability - Like the forum, you can have a Display Name that is different from the account name. If it was ever used before by anybody (including yourself) and was later abandoned, it can't be reused, so you must create another, even if by means of adding a suffix, e.g. CampKohler1.
Basics - When I first started, uploaded photos showed in Camera Roll (owners only sees) and had to be transferred to Photostream (viewers can be specified). New photos uploaded show in both. Supposedly Photostream is the only real place photos exist, and all other places like Camera Roll are sourced from it.
Blank Camera Roll problem - If after logging on to Flickr you find your populated Camera Roll empty, you might have to log out and log in again. But in that case, the camera icon may not give you the choice to log out. Bummer. Go to Help and click camera icon there to quit. Only happened to me once.
Photo storage area in Flickr - Free account is sized at 1 TB. You will be assigned a folder, e.g. "https://www.flickr.com/photos/165734665@N07/", the numbers being unique to each user. (I am guessing that the number format is "user number@server number".) More on this later.
Signing in - You will need to create an account with Yahoo.com.
If you have recently signed in and then out, cookies will remember your user name and only the password will be required.
Navigation - There are several alternate methods:
Uploading photos - When signed in (flickr.com), click the arrow-in-cloud icon on black menu bar to go to upload page (flickr.com/photos/upload). Drag and drop photos into the page or browse and select an existing file name. Click Upload [n] Photo to begin upload, where n is the number of photos selected*. Photos will now appear in Photostream and any other places derived therefrom like Camera Roll.
Viewing photo inventory - Use Photostream to see
Deleting photos - Viewing from Photostream, click a photo to select it. Then click the edit icon and click Delete. This deletes photo from the Photostream and anything derived therefrom, like the Camera Roll.

*With a blank Camera Roll, uploading two photos went only to the Camera Roll and I had to transfer photos to the Photostream. But later, uploading went to both tabs automatically. I don't know why.
