WB Studios made an unusual move Saturday. They released The Little Things in theaters and on HBOMax on the same day. Things' " opening weekend saw the film gross $4.8 million at 2,171 theatres across the US, making it the biggest opening for an R-rated flick since the beginning of the pandemic." The film also shot straight to #1 on Max, though that's probably not shocking considering the times and the cast. Set back in 1990 (there's nothing nostalgic about the era's generally forgettable cars!), Things stars Denzel Washington as a former LA homicide detective who made a mistake and landed as a deputy Sheriff in (by LA standards) a nearby rural area. He teams up with Rami Malek (he turned in the Academy Award winning role as Freddie Mercury in Bohemiam Rhapsody), who turns in a credible job as Washington's replacement in the LA PD. Together, they try to solve a serial whodunit. It's available to Max subscribers free only through Friday (2/5). I'm glad I saw it, though it's a little slower than what I'm used to seeing Denzel in. This film won't win any Academy Awards but for a first run movie, and while it wouldn't have been worth the time and expense of seeing it in a theater, even in BC (before COVID) times, it was well worth the price of the electricity it took to run a big screen TV! The plot twist in the final scene was completely unexpected but was outstanding!

I saw Bohemium Rhapsody again last night. Back when we did this, I first saw it on the big screen within a week of it's release. It reminded me of just how outstanding Rami Malek was as Freddie Mercury.

Mank is nominated for a ton of Oscars. I saw it on NetFlix last night and have no idea why? Sure glad I didn't see it in a theater. It's based on a true story that I'd never heard, so I'm glad I watched it.
