Dolomites - northeastern Italy. A pale mountain range made of dolomite limestone in the eastern Alps. The range and the mineral dolomite are name for the French mineralogist Deodat de Dolomieu who studied the geology of the range during the 18th century. The range contains a series of cabled climbing routes initially constructed by the Austrian military during WWI when the range was part of Austria-Hungary. The Italian military improved the routes during WWII. And in subsequent years the cabled routes have become popular civilian climbing routes. Lake Natron,Tanzania
Lake Natron is a salt or soda lake in Arusha Region in Tanzania. It is in the Gregory Rift, which is the eastern branch of the East African Rift. The lake is within the Lake Natron Basin, a Ramsar Site wetland of international significance. Numerous near-white salt-crust "rafts" pepper the shallowest parts of the lake. The lake is fed principally by the Southern Ewaso Ng'iro River, which rises in central Kenya, and by mineral-rich hot springs.
