And my answer. Yes, I track my fuel consumption as I need to be able to prove the business expense. I compute it both ways; the actual costs of operating the truck and the standard mileage rate of 54.5 cents per mile for 2018, and use the one that gives me the best tax write off. I drove a lot less last year, as I dropped any client that was more than a hour drive from home base. I'm planning to totally retire by January 2020.

LESS WAY LESS!  I now have an apartment in Scottsdale to stay during the week . no more 240 Mile round trips every day.  Even though my present car gets 45MPG it still all adds up in both money and time.  Driving home only on weekends is like Heaven.

I always loved getting on the car and goinn to new places, weekends were the time to do that, but when the time came to have to drive back and forth to earn a living...Boy, the drive just became a total BORE.
