If you like Bagels like I do (I lived for several yrs 4 houses down from a Bagel Place opened 24-7 in Forest Hills, NY) Panera Bakeries do a great Job in baking them fresh every day.
On Tuesdays they Sell a Baker's Dozen for a mere $6.99, they are just like fresh if you freeze them and always taste great.
I got my 13 out the door today at opening time of 6:00AM for $7.40 tax included. They will last us easily 2 weeks, I just dont even eat a whole one, half of one toasted with ALDI's Neuchatel Cream Cheese does the trick for me. I love them plain ones, as God meant to have them when hungry.
You got a Panera Bakery Cafe nearby in your location ? Call them and find out what weekly Day they run the Promotion, you will be happy you got them.

Today is National Tequila Day! I'm slightly confused, as I'd have sworn that was part of May 5th! Oh well. I'll suffer!

Starting tonight, I believe, the Ohio liquor control board has banned the sale of alcoholic beverages after 10 pm, and consumption on premises of same after 11 pm, in retaliation for noncompliance with the Governor/state health director's face gear order.
Columbus passed a similar ban Monday night but a local judge enjoined enforcement the next day because the state constitution denies cities that power.
I'm waiting for a lawsuit to be filed Monday, likely in one of the least affected counties, which may result in an order overriding the liquor board's ban.
At least with the statewide ban, I'm less concerned about drunks leaving Columbus to find bars in the suburbs and then driving home. I guess that just pushes the same problem to border cities and towns, where drunks will just cross state lines to find a watering hole.

This lawsuit challenging Governor DeWhine and the Ohio liquor board's 10pm last call order took a day longer than I expected but I'm glad to see it. No word on the hearing that was supposed to go forward this morning. I was wrong thinking that this statewide rule helped with the drunk driving problem. While it did eliminate the the city's ordinance's defect that would cause drunks to drive to and from suburbs instead of staggering home from neighborhood bars, it created a new one. A bartender told me that they're letting folks order at last call as much as they think they can drink by 11 pm. So that means the streets are getting "loaded" with more drunks earlier, when more people are out and about, instead of spreading it out thru 2:30 am, the old closing time when very few cars are on the roads. DeWhine's just such a genius. Not.

I stumbled upon a mostly useless study -- that is assuming it's not your first rodeo with a microwave oven. I don't know that it settles the raging debate about the best way to brew tea or not? Regardless of whether you use it to prepare a beverage or some kind of food, it never distributes the heat evenly. I didn't need to spend whatever they did on this study to know that one way to avoid the problem is to use a lower setting and to stop the process a couple of times to [gasp!] stir whatever it is I put in there, while checking to make sure it's not there yet. Another nifty "trick" (no study required) involves stopping the device at least a few seconds before the timer expires to do the check so, if more time is needed, you can push the start button and then use the add 30 seconds button to add time without having to redo the settings.

Hard Rock Cafe NuggetThis is by no means breaking news! Yesterday when I was walking and the AT40 countdown replay from this week in '77 featured Carole King's version of Hard Rock Cafe, I got to wondering which came first: Her song or the restaurant? Turns out it was neither! Little did I know that back in '69, two years before the original HRC opened in London, the Doors used the term for . The back cover featured a picture of the true original Hard Rock Cafe -- from a time that predates the genre by about 25 years! -- in LA:

The draconian measures that have been adopted across the US and Canada in response to the COVID-19 pandemic have had tremendous impacts on what we eat and where we eat it. The online cooking website "Delish" is all over it with this article to start 2021: The 15 Food Trends You're Going To See Everywhere In 2021.
