The following edit was just made to the countdown's lead post and takes priority over all prior rules: Current posting limit: Up to 10 posts per session, limit total of 2 full sessions/day, but they can be done in 4 sets of 5 or any combo that doesn't exceed 20 total posts.
Under 100 posting limit:
From 99 down to 20, the limit will be 5 posts/day.
No more than one minute is permitted between posts or the session may be considered terminated without the ... being posted.
Under 20 posting limit:
The final 20 posts in the countdown are limited to 1 per day.
1. The maximum time any single posting session may last is 20 minutes. The overall 50 post/session limit also applies. Also, if the topic remains dormant for more than one minute between posts, the 3 dots may be "presumed" by another participant and, if another participant starts to post, the previous session is terminated. Just put a note in the post that "The previous session has terminated under the 1 minute rule." The exception will be when someone is legitimately searching for an error and puts up a note to that effect.
2. Yield to anyone who has posted fewer "full" sessions than you have during a day. Number of full sessions = posts for the day/session limit. Days begin and end at midnight eastern standard time. This is aimed at minimizing the impact of group posting that tends to freeze out others.
3. Post/Edit your total posts for the day so far after your last post in a posting session.
4. Personal attacks against other participants are not permitted in the topic. If you have something to say to another participant, be big enough to say it directly, in a civil manner.
Also, because of the high activity in the topic, additional special rules will be issued soon for the final 1,000 posts to get to the zero.
I am prepared to reset the count if there is abuse of the topic or it's participants.
Polite, civil discussion of these rules or any suggestions is welcome below. If addition changes are needed or desired, this post will be edited and a copy of the old lead post will be posted in the topic.

Final 1,000 rulesThanks to all for the way posting has gone since I changed the rules in the topic.
I'd always planned to have some sort of scaled back limits for the last 1,000 posts but the recent activity caused the thread to reach 1,000 way faster than I thought it would. So I'm sorry there wasn't more of a warning about these changes before my post the other day. It's taken nearly 2 years but we're in the last 800 posts in the topic. So to make sure everyone has a chance to participate down the stretch, new posting limits will go into effect. The new limit on posts until the topic reaches 500 is 20 posts per session, still with a limit of 2 posting sessions per day. The time limit for a session is reduced to 8 minutes. A day starts at midnight eastern daylight savings time. Posting sessions that ended before these rules went up don't count toward today's new limit.
From 500 down to 100, the limit will be 10 posts/session, still with a limit of 2 sessions per day. From 99 down to 20, the limit will be 5 posts/day. There will be no overall session time limit after the count hits 500 but the one minute between posts rule will remain in place until the count reaches 20. From 20 down there can be only a single post in a session.

2nd Edit: Final 800 Post Rules
New rules further limiting the number of posts per session during the final 800 posts of the countdown have been added to the Rules for GBR's 50K Countdown thread. These new rules replace inconsistent previous rules. If something seems fuzzy, please interpret it to provide additional posting opportunity for as many as possible. Thanks, GBR. Removed this morning just before noon:
3rd edit:
Because a group of 5 posters posting consecutively (with one single post somehow getting in) added 220 more posts than allowed by the rules, I'm adding the new rules here, too:
I am prepared to reset the count if there is abuse of the topic or it's participants.
Polite, civil discussion of these rules or any suggestions is welcome below. If addition changes are needed or desired, this post will be edited and a copy of the old lead post will be posted in the topic.

Current posting limit: Up to 10 posts per session, limit total of 2 full sessions/day, but they can be done in 4 sets of 5 or any combo that doesn't exceed 20 total posts. The final 20 posts in the countdown are limited to 1 per day. Substituted with clarified rules on October 2nd:
Previous edits have been cut from this topic and posted in the topic linked below for posterity. These rules have been published in a separate topic and are open for civil, polite discussion there. Do not burden the actual countdown topic with discussion. I want all posts to count but am prepared to reset the total count to disregard posts by participants who abuse the topic's rules. Play nice, people.
