A bar burger is the only way to go. Probably the best chain burger is 5 guys but they have gotten prohibitively expensive.

Ghostwriter Public House in Johnstown has a good smashburger. Better with bacon but a bit pricey at $18 with fries.

The Thurman Cafe in the German Village district of Columbus offers "The Thurmanator"!
The scene:
Bottom bun, mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickle, banana peppers, 12 ounce burger, bacon, cheddar, another 12 ounce burger, sautéed onions & mushrooms, ham, mozzarella & American cheese, top bun served with fries and a pickle spear

Never been but I have not been to Dearborn in about 20 years. I'll check it out with a couple of connections and report back.
The local 614 Magazine put out this article today listing six quintessential Columbus burgers. The second on their list was the Thurman Cafe that I already noted.
Surprisingly, Johnny's was on the list. I was there once in the late 80s. It was a complete dive back then and likely still is. The burger was good but quintessential?
A third place they note, Northstar, also has an excellent burger. That said, the article is pointing to their plant based burger for the list. It may well be and excellent product but I don't count that as a burger and it's not possibly "quintessential."
I've never been to the other 3 places they list. All 3 are in downtown Cbus and I'm not likely to venture down there anytime soon.

I just had The Boss Bacon Burger from SheetZ. The Boom Boom sauce really puts it over the top.
