Planted 10 assorted milkweed plants plus 3 other plants to attract butterflies. The small plants are starting to grow. Hope that I see some butterflies this year!!

Planted 6 large milkweed plants, a couple of pentas and a mint into the butterfly garden. Hope this year we help the Monarch's by having them reproduce!

I'm not a real gardener, but like to have pots on my balcony. Haven't had flowers for a while, just tomatoes and a basil and a mini-eggplant or two. This year I have some of those little 4-part starters, one of Cosmos, one of Impatiens and one of Tithohania (I think it's called). Just wondering how to pot them, each separately or combine one or two. I have some old hanging baskets so thinking I'll make one or two of those. Any advice?
I'm getting a late start, haven't potted anything yet. Need to get some more organic potting soil for the food and spaghnum peat moss. I had a huge bag of the latter that lasted many years. I don't need that much now. I don't get around much so need to call to see who has what and also does curbside pickups. I can't lift the huge bags so either need smaller, more expensive ones if they have them, or find a clerk who is willing to divide it up for me, half into another bag.
Hope I get these done while there is still time to harvest before the first frost!

I have a thermometer on a wall of my balcony. It looks like an analog clock and is screwed into the wall. Last year there was a wasp nest in the back of it. I waited until this summer, when it was old and removed it. I thought I was rid of them but now I see a new one has formed in the same place.
Last summer I looked online for tips to get rid of it and there were dire warnings about doing anything to them without tons of protective clothing and gear. So I just let them be for the rest of the summer. I'd rather get rid of them now, but don't want to risk getting stung and I don't want to use toxic chemicals, poisons, etc.
I've also had some moths inside and read they don't like lavender, so I have some natural essence of lavender sprays. One has glycerine in it (all they had when I ordered) which I think should make it soapy and/or slippery. I've thought about trying to spray that onto or behind the thermometer and see what happens. But haven't had the nerve b/c it seems there is always one in there. The queen perhaps? Do they sting?
Any advice?

I have a product that looks like a very large wasp nest made of paper, and waterproof. I hang it at the edge of my entrance to my house and where my butterfly garden is located. I do not get any wasp. Don't know why this works, but it does.

Thanks. I wonder if I leave the old nest in place for next year if that might do the same thing.
Someone told that they don't come back to the same place but I don't know if it is true. This year I got rid of the old one from last year.

Gas Cat that's a beautiful flower!
This time I didn't clean out the wasp nest from last summer and they came back anyway.
Did you make or buy the fake wasp nest? The space where they nest, behind my thermometer and the wall is very small.
I'm getting kind of used to co-existing with them, but I'm still not really comfortable with it. And I normally enjoy eating out there sometime, but don't know if that's a good idea with those around.

DECYOOL 2 Pack Wasp Deterrent Wasp Nest Decoy for Hornets Yellow Jackets Outdoor Waterproof Material. $12 for a pack of two. There are other options, but I picked this one because it is made of waterproof material and the original one I used to buy had be discontinued. Just search on Amazon for Wasp Next Decoy and you will find a lot of choices to choose from.

Do you know if it would work for an already existing nest, or deter them next year?
