On September 1, 1945, Americans received word of Japan’s formal surrender that ended World War II. (Because of the time difference, it was Sept. 2 in Tokyo Bay, where the ceremony took place.)

Have a snack on National Welsh Rarebit Day on September 3rd. What is a rarebit? It is actually a Welsh term for rabbit. Similar to mock turtle soup having no turtle in it, Welsh rarebit does not contain rabbit. This dish is made with toast that has hot cheese poured over it.
