May 31, 1921, During the Tulsa Race Massacre, which occurred over 18 hours from May 31 to June 1, 1921, a white mob attacked residents, homes and businesses in the predominantly Black Greenwood neighborhood of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The event remains one of the worst incidents of racial violence in U.S. history, and, for a period, remained one of the least-known: News reports were largely squelched, despite the fact that hundreds of people were killed and thousands left homeless.

You can buy a flying bicycle. It sounds like something out of a sci-fi novel, but British inventors John Foden and Yannick Read have come up with a bicycle that actually flies. The XploreAir Paravelo is composed of a folding bicycle and a lightweight trailer that contains a biofuel-powered fan motor. The motor turns the fan, and with enough of a runway, it can reach up to 25 mph in the air and 4,000 feet in altitude. While the inventors were unable to reach their funding goal to produce enough Xplore Airs for wide availability, they are offering their inventive services through "bespoke productions" Who knew?

The master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock was frightened of eggs. He terrified audiences with movies like Psycho and The Birds, considered himself an ovaphobe — someone frightened of eggs. Alfred Hitchcock explained to an interviewer in 1963: "I'm frightened of eggs, worse than frightened; they revolt me. That white round thing without any holes, and when you break it, inside there's that yellow thing, round, without any holes… Blood is jolly, red. But egg yolk is yellow, revolting. I've never tasted it." Who knew?

Pittsburgh is the only city where all three major sports teams share the same colors. Black and gold are beloved colors in Pittsburgh, especially for sports fans who proudly wear them whether they're rooting for the Steelers (NFL), the Penguins (NHL), or the Pirates (MLB). According to The Wichita Eagle, the inspiration for the choice of color is "pretty simple — they are the colors of Pittsburgh's flag, which is based on the coat of arms of William Pitt, the 18th century British prime minister for whom the city is named.
