Who Knew???
National Cat Day on October 29th is the purrfect day to give extra attention to your feline friends.
Cats make excellent companions. They rarely miss you, but when they do, you sure know it. Awareness days such as this one urge pet lovers to adopt from a local shelter. The day also reminds us that neutering and spaying our furry companions helps reduce the abandoned population.

350 Slices of Pizza Sell Every Second in America. To keep up with demand, approximately 17 percent of all American restaurants are pizzerias. That's 3 billion pizzas, or 46 slices (23 pounds), of the stuff for every person in the country, every year. Every second, 350 slices are sold. If you're wondering about our taste in toppings, well, Americans consume 251.7 million pounds of pepperoni annually. During Pizza's biggest day, Super Bowl Sunday, 70 percent of those viewers of The Big Game say they'll have at least one slice. Who knew?

October 30, 1905 Russian Tsar Issues the October Manifesto. The manifesto, which was issued by Nicholas II, was a response to the Russian Revolution of 1905 in which there were widespread strikes and protests directed towards the government. The key features of the manifesto included the creation of an elected legislative body called Duma and universal suffrage for men. It also paved the way for a new constitution in 1906.

Who Knew???
On October 30th, the country celebrates its favorite vegetable with National Candy Corn Day.
In the late 1800s, George Renninger of Wunderle Candy Company created candy corn. His sweet treat represented the bright colors of corn kernels. Originally, candy corn was yellow, orange and white. However, it wasn’t until 1889 that the Goelitz Candy Company made the candy popular. Later, other candy makers developed a variety of popular colors and flavors as well.

It Only Appears as if Our Hair and Nails Keep Growing After We Die. You may have been told at some point in your life that our hair and nails continue to grow after we die. But that's not quite true. Instead, due to the fact that our skin dries out and therefore pulls back after we pass away, it merely appears as if our nails and hair are getting longer because more of them are exposed. Who knew?

Who Knew???
On October 31, Halloween brings out the ghouls and goblins, creatures, and strange folk. They come creeping about the neighborhood seeking favors over trickery.
People of all ages look forward to Halloween traditions. While dressing up and baking, we carve up glowing pumpkins. Children breathe life into storybook characters while practicing their trick or treat. In twos and threes, they traipse through the neighborhood, collecting their bounty in pillow sacks. A ghost, a pirate, a robot or Dorothy, and Toto. No matter their age, they come to the door. They knock or ring. Here and there, a screech or a boo!

The World's First Hamburger Was Actually a Smushed Meatball. Hamburger lovers may want to make a trip to Seymour, Wisconsin, which claims to be the place where the beloved burger was first made. In 1885, Charlie Nagreen apparently served the very first hamburger at the Seymour Fair when he flattened a meatball — which weren't selling terribly well — and placed it between slices of bread to make it easier to carry around and eat. Who Knew??? If the air is resplendent with the aroma of garlic and tomato sauce on November 1st, it might just be time to celebrate National Calzone Day.
Calzones take the delicious toppings and cheese of a pizza and tuck it up tight in a warm garlicky, crusty package. Also known as calzoni in some parts of Italy, like the pizza, it originated in Naples. It looks much like a turnover. As varied as pizzas come these days, so does the calzone.
