Camel Humps Are Devoid of Water. Camels' humps are not for storing water: they're for insulation and food storage. The hump is almost all fat, which regulates body temperature and serves as an alternative fuel source when they're wandering for days at a time with no food in sight. So where do they store their water? Right in their bloodstream. Who knew?

Who Knew???National Help a Horse Day on April 26th each year encourages horse lovers and advocates to join forces and protect abused and neglected horses. The day raises awareness of the need for horse sanctuaries and rescues.
In the United States, the horse holds legendary status. Despite that, many go unwanted, abused, or neglected. This day strives to address those issues by drawing attention to several organizations that support horse rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption.
Their programs offer shelter and veterinary care for horses that have been neglected or abused. Many of them provide a sanctuary where the horses live out the remainder of their lives. Once rehabilitated, many of the horses become available for adoption.

Abe Lincoln Was a Wrestling Champ. Here's an interesting history fact you probably didn't learn in school: Before he became president, Abraham Lincoln was a champion wrestler, taking part in about 300 matches and earning a reputation as a tough fighter (also, being 6 feet, 4 inches tall didn't hurt). After disposing of an opponent with a single toss, he stepped to the center of the mob that had gathered and shouted, “Any of you want to try it, come on and whet your horns!”. No one stepped forward. “He can outrun, outlift, outwrestle and throw down any man in Sangamon County,” said Bill Green, a store clerk in New Salem, Ill., as he watched the 22-year-old Lincoln whip all comers one day in 1831. Who knew?.

April 27, 2015, rioters plunged part of Baltimore into chaos, torching a pharmacy, setting police cars ablaze and throwing bricks at officers hours after thousands attended a funeral for Freddie Gray, a Black man who died from a severe spinal injury he’d suffered in police custody; the Baltimore Orioles’ home game against the Chicago White Sox was postponed because of safety concerns.

Audubon Killed Lots of Birds. John James Audubon's pioneering paintings of birds are so stunning that many overlook the fact that to get such detail, the artist would often kill his subjects, posing freshly killed birds into active poses so he could create a realistic painting without worrying they would fly away. Who Knew??? National Blueberry Pie Day on April 28th each year ushers in blueberry pie-making season. Blueberry harvest begins in April and lasts until September giving us a long season full of blueberry enjoyment.
We’ve been enjoying blueberries in pies since early American settlers arrived. In 1872, the first documented recipe for blueberry pie appeared in the Appledore Cook Book. Blueberries are abundant in Maine, so it’s no surprise that blueberry pie is the state’s official dessert!
