Many of History's Biggest Disasters Are Caused by Lack of Sleep. On June 1, 1999, American Airlines Flight 1420 overshot the runway at Little Rock National Airport, killing 11, including the captain, and injuring the first officer, the flight attendants and 105 passengers. Only 24 passengers were not injured. Then there was the Chernobyl nuclear meltdown. The Exxon Valdez oil spill. The Challenger explosion. All were caused in one way or another by exhaustion and lack of sleep on the part of the men who were responsible for preventing such disasters. Who knew.

Who Knew???
Each year on April 23rd, National Lost Dog Awareness Day increases awareness concerning missing dogs and celebrates reunions.
Through networks of shelters, veterinaries, social media, and other media sources, many lost canines and families reunite. The day is an opportunity to learn more about prevention and networking. There are also steps to take to prevent your family pet from going missing. Some of these preventative steps also help return Fido to you if he does go missing.

Nixon Was a Brilliant Musician. We think of Richard Nixon as a bit of a square — someone obsessed with power and little else. But the man could play five instruments (piano, saxophone, clarinet, accordion, and violin) and did so frequently. He played a piano rendition of "Happy Birthday" at the White House for Duke Ellington and "My Wild Irish Rose" in honor of his wife at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry. Who knew?

Who Knew???
On the last Sunday in April, National Pet Parents Day recognizes the pet parents who go the extra mile to care for their fur babies. There is a very special connection, a unique bond, between a pet and its owner. This unique relationship, which can often last for many years, is often a vital part of the ‘pet parents’ life. Their loved pets are considered to be a member of the family.

The Ampersand Used to Be the 27th Letter of the Alphabet. A combination of the cursive letters for "e" and "t" (forming the Latin word et, meaning "and"), the "&" symbol was for decades included in the alphabet, after "z." It didn't get its official name until 1837. The ampersand is a symbol which is considered a corruption of the phrase “per se & and.” It dates back more than 1,500 years. Who knew?
