On May 17,1954, a unanimous U.S. Supreme Court handed down its Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka decision which held that racially segregated public schools were inherently unequal, and therefore unconstitutional.

The U.S. Poisoned People as a Drinking Deterrent. Prohibition was a weird time in the country's history, but you probably wouldn't expect that one of the weird history facts on this list would be mass poison. Something often forgotten about Prohibition is that the government did not just try to dissuade drinking through fines and imprisonment, but by actually poisoning the industrial alcohol that was legal. Sure, this stuff was nasty already and not meant for drinking. But when desperate drinkers made a habit of imbibing rubbing alcohol, officials began to "denature" it, adding iodine, chloroform, and even gasoline and kerosene to make it nauseating and even deadly. People still drank it, and an estimated 10,000 people were killed because of it.

 May 17th each year dedicates the celebration of National Cherry Cobbler Day to the delicious tart dessert that many enjoy with ice cream.
ny believe the early American Colonies are where this recipe began born out of a lack of proper cooking utensils.
In the United States, cobbler refers to a variety of dishes consisting of a fruit filling (cherry being a popular choice ) covered with a batter,
biscuit, or pie crust that is then baked. Some cobblers have both a top and bottom crust.
Cobblers originated in the early British American colonies.
Due to the lack of suitable ingredients and proper cooking equipment, English settlers were unable to make their traditional suet puddings.
They improvised by covering a stewed filling with a layer of uncooked biscuits or dumplings.

Salmonella, Campylobacteria, Clostridium perfringens, Norovirus and Staphylococcus aureus (Staph).
Germs are the main reason having no dirty dishes on the counter or in the sink are important.

Turtle, built by American David Bushnell in 1775, was the first submersible vessel ever used in combat. It was used to attempt an attack on the British ship Eagle on Sept. 6, 1776, but the plan failed when it proved too tough to navigate against the current.
